“Three Rules of Work: Out of clutter find simplicity; From discord find harmony; In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.” Albert Einstein

Well what a morning I have had. Firstly I overslept. Well, actually I am on holiday so I cant technically oversleep as I dont have a set time to get up. However I am usually "Up and 'at 'em" by 7am and this morning I woke up at:eek:9am:eek:. All this decluttering and having no human contact must be waring me out :rotfl:

Anwyay, after taking Moo to the beach, where he duly went tumbling down a sand dune, jumped up looking confused and immediately fell down a rabbit hole, we came home for a long leisurely breakfast.

I left him in the kitchen snoring very loudly and made my way (miserably) back up to the bedroom.

Then I kicked myself up the behind and headed back to the mess that is classed as my bedroom. Yes a mess because, since freecycling the sofa on Sunday I moved the desk out of the main bedroom to the study, emptied all of the wardrobes and drawers with a view to Gokking the offending number of clothes and getting rid. I went to bed last night having to climb over a mountain of skirts and trousers. So after breakfast i braved the entry into the room and STOOD THERE in confustion for about 10 minutes. Then like a whirling dirvish and without stopping to think I started sorting into piles. Skirts, Trousers, Blouses, Jeans, Fleeces/sweatshirts/underwear/dresses. Then I colour coordinated piles, then I put together some pieces that would mix and match. What I realised is that I only ever wear about 20% of what I own. So with this in mind I picked out all of the things that I have worn in the last 3 months. Then I whittled that down to those that I have worn regularly. Chose a few items that I really like and that would mix with other things. Then I made piles again.
    • charity shop
    • textile bin
    • designer stuff to go to dress agency /sell
    • recycle for materials to start my crafting

So my Gok wardrobe now consists of :-
    • black linen trousers long
    • black linen trousers (capri style)
    • black straight knee length skirt
    • cream linen trousers - wide leg
    • beige pin stripe tailored trousers
    • silk patterned knee length skirt (navy and khaki)
    • jeans straight leg
    • jeans boot leg
    • brown cordurouy trousers
    • brown cord embroidered tailored jacket
    • cream belted mac
    • black pin stripe rain jacket
    • white linen shirt
    • pale blue cotton tailored shirt
    • pink silk shirt
    • cream silk shirt
    • beige cashmere jumper
    • cerise cashmere jumper
    • cream cardigan
    • grey shift dress
    • green embroidered shirt dress
    • silk navy tunic
    • black floaty dress - can be worn with jeans or on its own with boots and thick tights or as a summery dress with sandles. Love it, wear it all the time
    • white t shirts x 3
    • khaki tshirt
    • navy tshirt
    • khaki vest top
    • white vest top x2
    • khaki sweatshire
    • brown fleece

Probably still too much but I have tried to colour coordinate it. Now I need to sort out the accessories and shoes. Mmmmm shoes, where to start with those. I am also still deciding on a couple of other skirts to add in that would be nice with boots in the winter.

Right time for some lunch and then off to the tip/charity shop before they close and I change my mind and start taking them all out of the bags again.

That sounds like the makings of a lovely, chic capsule wardrobe. Looks like times been well spent.

Most of us (apparently) wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time. This is definitley true with me but I am such a hoarder when it comes to clothes that I can't bear to throw anything out. I really need to put Gokking on my list but the idea of it fills me with dread

Thanks for that Scrooge. I was feeling like today had been a bit unproductive but it did take me at least 2 hours to do the wardrobe and drawers. It was more difficult than I expected to get rid of stuff. Whilst I am not actually dieting I have been losing weight lately ( smaller portions when I am cooking for myself. If OH cooks he thinks he is feeding the 5000) so that helped to make up my mind.

I have to admit to going in phases. I will buy lots of clothes and then every so often I will have a cull. The problem with today was that the clothes that I have are the ones that have survived numerous culls so it was time to be ruthless. I am tired with standing in the bedroom panicing about what to wear when I have to go into the office or I am going out on a date with OH. It wastes so much energy. OH is lovely because he would tell me that I look lovely in a pair of wellies and muddy jeans. He says that he isnt with me for my dress sense but I do like to feel nice.

Well considering I got up late and have done far less today I am feeling very tired. I guess that the weeks decluttering and moving furniture around is catching up with me. So early night for me.
    TADA List
    • made breakfast - oatbran and fruit porridge
    • cleared dishes and washed them
    • Took Moo to the beach
    • cleaned out parrot cage
    • researched Sarah Browns Vegetarian cook book to plan weekend meals
    • Gok'd wardrobe (see above post)
    • had lunch
    • went to tip with 2x paper recycling bags from office
    • took bag of clothes to charity shop
    • sat on the prom and had a cup of tea - took my own flask saving £1
    • stopped off at my flat to do a few little jobs in an effort to get it ready for renting
    • went to Morrisons and got a few "bits" £17 eek but it is breakfasts for the rest of the month and some pulses to make up several meals
    • arrived home to be greeted by the gardeners who had started digging holes for the fence - made them a cup of tea
    • Took Moo out to the forest for a long walk whilst gardeners got on with jobs
    • sorted car out for mechanic to collect in the morning to take it for service
    • read a chapter of my book whilst eating tea
    • washed tea dishes
    • put up new shower curtain

Still not made £5 per day - I am not counting anything until it is actually in the bank! Is that the right way to do it?

Actually I have done more than I thought I had.

Do the £5.00 challenge whatever way you want. As long as you don't double count it will work out the same in the end.

When you make money out of your designer clothes that'll get you off to a really good start.

    Have a great day today.

Main Thing - Pay off Virgin Credit Card

Thanks Scrooge - it makes sense to me to count the money once it hits my account as I am sceptical that some of these payments will actually be paid. That said £7.80 hit my account this morning so I am off and running :j Must amend my signature.
Ok, busy day ahead so here goes with the first TADA list!

    TADA List
    • daily banking - quidco money of £7.80 and interest of £0.05 there today
    • paid the extra money off the Virgin credit card. Also the minimum payment is much less this month so I paid off the difference that I had allowed for ahead of DD. Total payment made £95.85
    • made breakfast and ate it
    • washed dishes
    • walked Moo
    • spoke to mechanic who is taking the car for service and MOT. Already due to pay £190 before anything needs doing!
    • Made a cup of tea for the gardeners who just arrived unexpectedly again.

So, this putting things out to the universe might just be working for me. I wrote on a piece of paper that I wanted the garden sorting by the end of this summer and hey ho 2 gardeners happened to appear when I was chatting to somebody. They are very good and just keep appearing (usually when I look at the garden and think it is getting me down). OK so I will forget the part where I have to hand over the money until I have to hand over the money :rotfl::rotfl: Mmmmm if I am to do this garden lark on a neutral money basis then I really have to get on and ebay those clothes. Thanks for the suggestion to job lot them Scrooge, that might work.

phew, and today ends at last.

Havent stopped all day. I now have space on the floor in the back bedroom (oops guest room) 12 boxes emptied, now got 10 bags to go to the tip, 2 bags to the charity shop, a chest of drawers that I didnt know existed, 2 mirrors to go up on walls, 100 books to go on bookshelves or to be listed on amazon, 6 tins of Laura Ashley paint, 2 tins of crown paint. 4 pairs of curtains, a curtain pole, a tent, a camping gas cooker, 2 sleeping bags, half a shed, a bookshelf to be put together, 2 boxes for car booting. A sore toe where I dropped a box on it, an aching back and many bruises.
Half a bottle of wine later and I have retired to bed. I am sure there is a quote in there somewhere but I am too tired to find one. Going to collapse into bed following a long hot soak in the bath.

Holy cow that room must have been full to bursting!!! Hi there, have just read the whole thread. Well done on focussing on the debt. I hope that you get good prices for the designer stuff.

I like the idea of tada lists i may have to adopt that on my paper diary.....
    cheers
