Wealth consists not in having great possessions but in having few wants.
    Epicurus

And never a truer word has been said I believe. Hence my motto, I have more than enough for my needs

As I said, I recently sold my house and as I was moving my possesions from a 3 bed house to a one bed flat I needed to reduce the amount I owned. I gave a lot of things away. I have ebayed some furniture but I am still left with lots and lots of boxes of stuff that I just couldnt part with. Rubbish mostly. So I have had a good talk to myself and I have decided that I MUST get rid of as much as I can. With this in mind I am going to research car boots in the area. I figure that I could then use the money I raise to help pay off the nasty Virgin account before setting to work on the Mint. Baby steps and one goal at a time is the way to go.

I am also changing my mindset and doing small lists for the day. Cheery Daff has a really good idea of doing a TA DA list - mmmm I might steal that one as it looks really motivating to list what you actually got done rather than what you intend to do.

    list for today
    • [STRIKE]make OH breakfast in bed [/STRIKE]
[*[STRIKE]]source garages that can do service and MOT by next week [/STRIKE]
[*[STRIKE]]have a lovely day with OH celebrating his birthday [/STRIKE]

So with the last thing on the list in mind, I am off now to do the first on the list and set the day in motion:)

We can have more than we've got because we can become more than we are.

Had a lovely day yesterday but now back to reality. Not feeling so good today, I am wallowing a little in my self pity so I think I will go away and have a little chat to myself.

Payday today, but I start my new budget from Monday so todays task is to work out the next months budgets. I am thinking about using the envelope system that I picked up from Hypno's diary. When I read about that system it reminded me of my Nana's bureau when I was little. She used to have this fantastic bureau that she kept all of her paperwork in. Amongst it were envelopes with money in for different things. This included things such as the window cleaner, the insurance man, the petrol, etc. That was the days when insurance men used to call to the door and we never had to hide behind the sofa at my Nan's,:T unlike at my Mum's :rotfl:

My envelopes would probably look like this I think,
    Petrol
    Food
    Pet food
    Sundries
    Treats

Mmm - need to think some more about this.

I also need to do an SOA and a budget planner for the year so that I can start to put money aside to help in my debtbusting quest.
    Todays list
    • empty some kitchen cupboards
    • move some of the kitchen equipment from boxes into the newly created spaces in kitchen
    • complete a spreadsheet for next months budget
    • look at SOA on main site
    • take Moo to the beach

Love the envelope idea may use it myself, or jars . starting my new tight budget sunday. Off to gather jars, how many will I need? wine, choc's, clothes, meal's out, diamonds :rotfl:. Ok so that's the list of things I'm not having, good to dream though ;).
Sew it, knit it, glue it, reuse it , don't buy it

:rotfl::rotfl: We can all dream. Not really a diamond girl myself.I like rocks of a different kind, I much prefer things like rosequartz and amethyst stones.

Well, I spent a good hour working out budgets this afternoon.
    Envelopes will be as follows
    • Petrol £80 (old car so uses a fair bit)
    • Food £80 - now this is a tricky one because I have never kept a count of what I spend but I know that it is where most of my money goes.
    • pet food £20
    • sundries - £20
    • Treats £20

S0 a total of £220 for the month. As this is my first real attempt at the envelope system I thought that it is likely that things will change by the end of the month.
I have also decided that I might give the PAD system a go with my Virgin Credit card. I am determined to get that paid off as quickly as possible and at the moment it just isnt happening. So in honour of that I have, today made an extra payment to it of £84!

Having once decided to achieve a certain task, achieve it at all costs of tedium and distaste. The gain in self confidence of having accomplished a tiresome labor is immense.

With baby steps I will get there. I will focus on one debt at a time and see where we go from there.

Spoke to the garage yesterday and got the car booked in for its service and MOT next week. Before I even get anything done they have quoted me £150 for the service and £40 for the MOT. I know that there are several things that need doing as well so I am really worrying about how much it is going to cost. Good news is that I have about £350 saved towards it so hopefully it will be less than that thus enabling me to move some money to the emergency fund.

    Todays list
    [STRIKE]empty some kitchen cupboards[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]move some of the kitchen equipment from boxes into the newly created spaces in kitchen[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]complete a spreadsheet for next months budget[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]look at SOA on main site[/STRIKE]
    take Moo to the beach

In honour of Memory Girl I had several 15 minute bursts in the kitchen. I have a house full of clutter and I am determined to reduce as much as I can by the end of next week. So I now have 2 bin bags to go to the tip tomorrow. This has meant that I can move some of the kitchen equipment that I have had stored in boxes since moving in with OH. I am quite excited by that because I now have my blender, coffee machine, and food processor neatly put away in their very own cupboards. I have also organised the cupboards so I now know what food I have in the storecupboards and will be able to meal plan later this evening. I am living alone during the week so I can eat quite cheaply but I do like to make really nice meals at the weekend for OH when he is home.

Right - off to the beach in the piddling down rain. What better time to go to the beach I say?

Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.

Ok, last day of the month and last day of me "thinking" about how to clear debt and getting on and doing it. So here is my focus list

    Budget
    • Petrol £80 (old car so uses a fair bit)
    • Food £80 - now this is a tricky one because I have never kept a count of what I spend but I know that it is where most of my money goes.
    • pet food £20
    • sundries - £20
    • Treats £20

    Extra Income
    • list 10 things on ebay (baby steps)

    Credit Card - Virgin
    • try to do a payment per week (PAD seems a step too far at the moment)
    Health and Wellbeing
    • declutter one room at a time (baby steps)
    • source some music for tai chi exercise and start tai chi again
    Work
    • start working the hours I am paid for instead of putting in long days

I just joined the above challenge and this is my post

I set myself a challenge for the month of August? This would be to actually be able to open the door of the spare bedroom and put a bed in there Moved into OH house and when we have visitors, despite living in a 3 bed house we have to sleep on camp beds in the living room. It is difficult to completely clear it as all the "stuff" is his and he has a problem letting go of things. It doesnt help that when he lived at home with his parents, his Dad frequently just threw his stuff away so I am very wary of sorting it out.

To be able to do this I need to
    • clear some space in the wardrobes in our bedroom (Gok capsule comes to mind) will allow me to clear some boxes of clothes from the back bedroom into the wardrobe - freecycle and charity shop any unwanted clothes
    • freecycle a small two seat sofa from our bedroom which will allow me to put in more storage space
    • build some bookshelves that match the bedroom set in our bedroom to be able to move some books into there from boxes in back room
    • arrange to get the shed built so I can move some boxes into it (some bits of the shed are in the back bedroom!)
    • arrange to get a new inner blanket for the storage heater that OH took out of living room 5 years ago so he could paint. Oh living room still not painted heater is currently living in the back bedroom
    • arrange for said heater to be put back on wall in living room
    • move boxes from back bedroom into the shed when built
    • bring bed out of storage to put in back bedroom

Well that TA DA list does look impressive!

I think I may have to try the envelope system, at least for a month anyway.

I like quotes too - Churchill, Dorothy Parker, Mae West.....

Thanks, I am taking a leaf out of Cheery Daff's diary. She does TADA lists instead of To Do lists. I have been watching and thought it would be much more motivating to write what I have done and feel proud of small achievements rather than crossing off my to do list and feeling a failure when I dont complete it. So I wrote anything and everything on there.

I have come out of lurkdom to say "WOW" you sure did get a lot done today - well done :j. I am such a list person that I write lists for absolutely everything but I do tend to get demotivated when I haven't crossed everything off (which is the majority of the time!). I may have to consider doing a TADA list instead. I am also a quotes lover.

Keep up the great work cherisong.
