Now Tibetan Roast ?????
Yes the house smells like a rose garden as the sun is shining it releases the scent from the glass. I can only use this oil when I am on my own as it is really girlie.
Tibetan Roast is a nicer version of nut roast. It is made with pearl barley or buckwheat, walnuts and mushrooms.
Recipe if you are interested- 1 teaspoon of oil
- 4oz of buckwheat or pearl barley
- 40z of oniouns, peeled and finely diced
- 8oz of mushrooms chopped
- 1/4 pint of red wine
- 1/4 pint of stock
- 4oz of walnuts
- 8oz of spinach
- 2 easpoons of fresh rosemary or 1 teaspoon dried
- 2 teaspoons fresh sage or 1 teaspoon dried
- 1 eggg
- salt and fresh ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon butter
- heat oil and fry wheat or barley for 2-3 minutes allowing to brown
- add the onions and cook for a few minutes
- add the mushrooms cook for further 5 minutes
- pour in the red wine and stock bring to the boil
- reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes if using buckwheat or 50 minutes if using pearl barley
- grind the walnuts
- cook the spinace without water for 6 minutes
- dranin off excess liquid and chop spinach
- when buckwheat or pearl barley is cooked remove from plan and allow to cool,
- stir in ground walnuts, spinach, rosemary and sage.
- mix in the beaten egg and season well
- grease a 1lb loaf tin and press in the mixture (for a posh party I use a ring mould)
- bake for 50 - 60 minutes until top is dark brown and firm to touch
- serve hot (turn out of tin after 10 minutes and then cut to serve) Can be served cold with a salad
it is nice with a mushroom and sherry sauce- 10z buter
- 8 0z mushrooms
- 1 tablespoon sherry
- 4 teaspoons flour
- 1 pint of strong veg stock
- salt and fresh pepper
- melt butter in pan, add mushrooms and sherry cover and cook for 2-3 mins on high
- uncover and continue to cook until liquid evaporates and mushrooms are browned
- reduce heat add flour and cook for 5-6 minutes
- add stock a ltttle at a time
- simmer for 3-5 minutes
- cool and then liquidise. gently reaheat for serving
Lot of work but it is really nice.
Sorry you asked?

OOh, I'm jealous of your beach walking, and very impressed with your charity shop haul! :j :j Would love to see pictures when you've done things :T0

You've been so busy! I must admit the things you are doing in your house is exactly the sort of look I am after. I do like shabby chic and having different things. I'm fed up with going in other people's houses and seeing the smae old furniture time after time.
You reminded me - I need to sort out my airing cupboard. Will do that when DD goes back to school.
The Monsoon skirt sounds lovely and what a bargain you got there :TIt's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
Thanks Poles, although I am now panicking about the bookshelf as I am convinced OH will not be impressed. Still I might managed to get it sanded and oiled/waxed before he comes home and then he might not mind too much. Sounds like you have had a lovely week off with DD (despite a few hiccups) and got lots done yourself. However your things completed sound like much more fun. Attending to the soul and family are just as important as clearing out airing cupboards - if not more so.

I love spinach, and mushrooms Cheri. have printed it off, I know the kids won't eat it, real meat and two veg men. Am a year into no red meat diet. But am slowly on my way to full on veggie - which will obviously mean no Jelly Babies.
So recipes like that will help my cause.DC.

Glad you like the sound of it DC. I tried to be Veggie for years. I kept falling off the wagon though. But then I discovered Sarah Brown, her recipes are so lovely why would I ever want to eat meat? Must admit though I struggle to get anything when I am out and about other than cheese sandwiches or veggie burgers. I must add to my 1001 list that I want to visit Greens Restaurant in Manchester (the guy of the Sunday morning programme owns it). I visited a great veggie restaurant in Edinburgh last year too. The food can be so lovely with a little bit of imagination. Perhaps you could serve it as an accompaniment for the boys. Last Christmas OH parents came to stay and they are meat and 2 veg (potatoes everyday) and they kept trying my veggie offerings. By the end of the two weeks they were asking for just veggie options. Loving today, the sky is the bluest I have seen it for weeks, lovely spindly white clouds floating across every now and again. I am in the garden painting up some furniture and watching the red kites soar above on the thermals. I have turned off the radio, all of the neighbours are out for the day so nothing but the sound of the sheep and cows in the field across the road can be heard. Even though the garden is still far from usable I am thoroughly enjoying been out here. I have even brought the laptop out and sitting here sipping earl grey and updating my blog and catching up with diaries. Life can only be better than this when I share a day like today with OH.Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Thanks Cheery, I have had a particularly nice day. Sounds like you have too.
Went to the beach this evening, took Moo, a book, fold up chair and flask of tea. We walked from one end to the other then sat and watched the world go by and the sun setting over the horizon. Very nice indeed.
Finances Alert
All my finances are now worked out for the month. I am not doing the envelopes this month, instead I am going to revert to the method that worked for me in the days when I was completely solvent. IE. Do a big shop (Wednesday) based on a meal plan which I am still perfecting
Buy all pet food in for Coco (African Grey who I havent told you all about yet) and Moo for the month.
Pay all bills on 1st month that dont already come out by DD. Transfer any leftover cash to the savings account (Yearly payments allowed for in different accounts)
and then draw a set amount out each week.
So my Big Shop budget is £80 for the month, this is to include toiletries, cleaning stuff and food, (£20 per week should do me) then the
weekly budget will be worked out based on what I have left after all the savings/yearly payments(/12) DDs, pet food and cash payments have gone out and divided by 4 weeks. I think at this point it will work out at about £30 per week. This will have to pay for all entertainment, petrol, fresh food etc. Should be easily doable as I have stashed away the expenses that have just come through and this will be used to put petrol into the car for any work related trips.[/COLOR] Oh, and I have allowed myself £45 for my hair to be cut and coloured this month as I am feeling like a witch at the moment. :rotfl::rotfl:

Wow,the first of September tomorrow already. Where on earth is this year flying to? The sun is shining again and perhaps September will bring good things. Looking forward to 24th as then my life will be going in either one direction or t'other

seems an apt quote for the way forward this month. So I will have to start in earnest looking for the path that changes the course of my travel and start scattering those seeds abroad
Checked banking and would you believe that the pet insurance have now also credited the over deduction even though the indeminity has been paid. So I will have to call them today to take it back. Who pays these imbeciles to do these jobs? Wages in, meal plans almost finished. £2 in purse to last to the end of the week as I am not allowing my weekly spends until the end of the week. Ok, off to work as I have 3 meetings todaySooner be staying home.
