  • I can't do hats ! Remember Samuel Tweet ? Kids show early 70's ? That's what I look like in a hat, any hat. It's true ! My Mum despaired at the height of Biba fashion, I was not destined for hat wearing.

Well, I never professed to looking good in a hat, I just like them. Dont care how silly I look and some I would never wear either but I do like a nice hat. I think it might have something to do with always wanting to go to a wedding to wear one but I always ended up being the bridesmaid:( Then when I got to go to my brothers weddings nobody was wearing a hat. What is that all about?

Somebody asked me the other day about getting married but I said that I feel that us not being married and still together shows me that we are more committed to each other because we want to be together not because we are bound together, if that makes any sense.

This makes perfect sense. I have another friend who has said the same thing - been with her OH for about 20 years. She said that as they are at the moment either one of them could just up and leave. They stay together because they want to be together.

:rotfl:every time I use that phrase 'want to be together' it comes out in a brummie accent in my head like that old advert (HSBC?) from years back :rotfl:

IMO there are some people around who are so wrapped up in the idea of getting married (as a goal in life) and having a big wedding that they lose sight of the bigger picture. Just my opinion...

I look GREAT in hats :rotfl: It's really daft, doesn't matter how ludicrous or stupid the hat is, I just obviously have the kind of face that suits them :rotfl: I consider myself VERY fortunate that I can get away with all manner of silly head gear (and often do :rotfl: - although not as often as I should!)

Hmm, must dig out a hat for this wedding this weekend! :rotfl: Most of mine are wintery though...

You cant go to a wedding and not wear a hat Cheery, I am sure that you will come up with something. Enjoy.

Strange that because I just read that in the same Brummie accent. Amazing what marketing can do to us.

Your opinion matches with mine too Poles. The thing is that people do focus on the day rather than the life to follow and they get all silly and caught up with the dramas of the day that when they come back down to earth it is a big shock and can seem quite dull living every day life.

Hope you have a great weekend planning next weeks excursions.

  • Yep that was me too, 'OH' and I were together, full stop. I definetly missed out on the wedding gene anyway. There's those that do and those that don't. The big wedding, horse and carriage, floaty dress all the way down to the sugared almonds has always had me shuddering. If we had done it it would have been cut off jeans and my favourite t-shirt and a BBQ on the beach. Hats optional lol!

Funny how something unexpected changes all that though. Whilst it was just me and OH marriage wasn't a consideration, I didn't need a piece of paper to prove what I already knew. Then along came DD1 and suddenly OH turns all traditional on me. Still had the wedding we wanted despite upsetting our nearest and dearest by only inviting the relatives we liked and keeping the entire thing to long term friends only. A decade later some relatives are still cheesed off by this but then I've only seen them a couple of times since anyway. We had an absolute blast, although my mother-in-law never did get over me wandering down the "aisle" in a maternity tent teamed up with a pair of chunky trainer type sandals. Figured comfort over style any day.

It's strange isn't it? Although I'm not really bothered about getting married I would quite like to know what it feels like to wear a wedding dress! It would be quite unlike anything I have ever worn before. I suppose I could go into a bridal shop and just play dress-up but I would feel guilty for wasting the assistant's time! The thought of being the centre of attention for a whole day really scares me too.

I think I've been let down so many times before I've learnt to depend on myself.

I do enjoy a good wedding though :D

I feel pretty much the same about weddings! Never really saw the point :) Mind you, this one yesterday was utterly fab. Bride's dress was bright green, absolutely gorgeous. Picnic on a hillside overlooking the peak district, gorgeous small ceremony under a tree where they promised to listen to and be present with each other, and lovely cake, gorgeous food, lovely people, a wishing tree, and all sorts of other lovely things. Almost made me want to do it myself (but not quite)
