  • Fingers crossed the OP is busy unpacking this morning....then comes back to let us know what happened!!!! :rotfl:

This reminds me of a time when I had to assess compensation to a homeowner whose house was compulsory acquired by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (the area was being demolished). I arrived to inspect the 'empty' property and got the shock of my life....the owner had literally lifted whatever clothes he wanted and closed the front door....the beds were still made, there were dishes in the sink, toiletries in the bathroom, photos and nick nacks on the side tables.... It wasn't even as if he was still popping back - he had informed NIHE that he had left and the property had been closed up with metal shutters!

How lovely to walk out on your life and start completely afresh!! :rotfl:

Think yourself lucky when my parents moved into their house in 1979 they had the opposite problem. The previous owners took everything. I mean everything.

internal doors, light fittings AND skirting boards. Yes, skirting boards!!

it would simply re-inforce this behaviour and possibly even lead to them taking further advantage of the original poster.

Well, we wouldn't want to reinforce this behaviour, or she'll come back next week and sell the OP another house with some things left in. :)

    Why not?

    It's a breach of contract.

Us Brits are far too reserved about this sort of stuff.

Yes, if only we were like the US. Let's sue each other as fast as we can when life doesn't work to a paperwork schedule.

Excuse my ignorance here, but why on earth would someone do this?! When I bought my house the previous owners left a garage full of old, dated, furniture....I was quite glad of the dining room table (with a nice tablecloth over it!) for a while until I could afford to start buying furniture.

Honestly have no idea, unless they were moving into a house which was exactly the same size the skirting boards are next to useless.

They could only dream of a free table and table cloth in the garage! My parent's first sofa were two deck chairs! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Well our solicitor conveniently had childcare issues today so wasn't in work! The vendor is currently moving the last of her stuff out of our house using the smallest van possible. She wanted to come back tomorrow but we said no

just to confirm there was no death/ hospitalistion which defered the move. Apparently she didn't know we were completing yesterday. How she can say that I don't know. She either has the worst solicitors possible or she doesn't listen. What seller does not know the date of completion?

    Was/is she even apologetic?

I'd be gritting my teeth not to lamp her.
