I agree with you Patchwork, my neighbour didnt let me know that she was having a new gas fire installed at 8am on the saturday before Easter Sunday, I was up and about myself, but the kids werent, I was furious. The noise was ridicolous.

  • I've often thought of baking one set of neighbours a cake.....topped with Ex-Lax:p They are allergic to noise...any noise...the tv, the vacuum cleaner, Spud's babbaling.....hubbys snoring....nursery rhymes...........locking the door. I kid you not! They bang on the wall at the slightest sound. Thing is, their bedroom is next to our living room &we can hear when they are having sex:p:o:eek: so now we bang on their wall when they are banging:rotfl:

Anyway, my other nice neighbours I often exchange bisuits & cakes with, Funnily enough they are always the ones who are also happy to move their car from you, feed the cat, let the dog out, run you to the Dr's in a emergency etc. So I say share the baking love.

Think my neighbours would just find it odd if I baked them a cake. They would assume I was apologising for something because they came with chocolates one time last year to apologise for their dog barking early in the morning. The neighbours the other side would think I was eccentric or something!

    Just enjoy being eccentric..... :p

i plan on making a cake for a family friend, who leaves just round the corner anyway, an old favourite of his
  • This is such a good idea....:D

I very often take a loaf cake into work - if I'm making one at home I just double the quantitites and it's no extra effort. It always seems to go down well and if anyone misses out they whine alot!;) I find this is the best kind of cake to do as I can slice it up ready and my colleagues don't have to touch anything apart from their piece of cake. Huh? I hear you say.....well, I work with vets and you should see their hands when they've come back from farm visits!!:naughty:

  • This is a great idea. I am lucky I have lovely neighbours on every side. The lady who lives upstairs is always bringing us cakes and food, we get on very well. The other day I made her an apple cake (with the windfalls from the back garden), when I took it up it turned out she was having a bad day so it was good timing. The cake cheered her up and she even asked for the recipe!

Then a couple of days later, a different neighbour came and brought me some lovely plum flapjacks (with plums from her front garden). What goes around comes around! So I'll have to make her an apple cake next!

What with all this neighbourly goodwill and free fruit, you'd never guess that I live in London, not Ambridge!

What a difference a cake makes..... :rotfl:
