BEWARE ASDA'S NEW SHODDY POLICY FOR GEORGE RETURNS

Mrs Jazza purchased pair of George shorts at Asda for DS1 2 or 3 weeks ago and on trying them on at home found they didn't fit. Asked to exchange or refund at local ASDA (Newton Mearns) to be advised that policy is now that with no receipt they will neither exchange nor refund. Now please, these shorts still had all the labels - where else sells current range George clothing? and to make matters worse no signs in store, no advice from sales assistance when they were bought.

Checking online this now appears to be the case (quietly brought in I think at the same time as their '100 day guarantee' , the same 'new' guarantee, the adverts for which I believe were banned by the advertising standards people).

E-mail correspondence with Customer Services got us no further, saying individuals should use their discretion, but basically saying "tough luck".

We won't be buying any more clothing or indeed anything else from ASDA till they change this ludicrous policy - Beware if you buy anything and make sure you keep the receipt.

i understand what you are saying but what if you had stolen the item then asking to get something else.
not saying you have but many out there may and they may have had alot of stolen stock returned so had to implement.

Neither shoddy nor sneaky. Eminently sensible. Particularly when you consider the tendencies of the sort of conniving low-life who shop in Asda.

Its hardly ludicrous, its the way of 99.9% of other shops, its just that Asda has been extremely generous about this for years
Nothing personal to you but do you have any idea how much shoplifting goes on in these places and the items get returned
    for a refund.

I never throw a receipt out for 12 months,

I think in saying you will never shop there again you are cutting your nose off to spite your face iMHO

There was a sign up in my local store advising of the policy change.

A retailer is under no obligation to excahnge something because it either does not fit or you have changed your mind.

I fully appreciate there is no olibgation - however it is a matter of good customer service. There have been no notices of any such change in any of our local stores.

Not best thrilled with ASDA /Walmart at the best of times, but definetely don't think I'm cutting off my nose - much prefer to shop at Sainsburys anyway.

McKneff - you wouldn't believe the number of receipts I do keep - have many from up to 2 years ago - always keep them, but sods law this one is lost.

Newbie, we have shopped in the store regularly several times a week for at least the past ten years - We have dealt with the same CS woman on many occasions.

And it is a sneaky change, brought in local stores here anyway without any notification and hiding behind the much trumpeted 100 day guarantee, the ads for which were banned because they highlight only what we should be getting for any purchase anyway.

I'll not lose too much sleep over avoiding ASDA, but the main point was to warn anyone else purchasing GEORGE clothing that they will not get even an exchnge without a receipt.

Yeah imagine them not having the "good customer service" to allow shoplifters to return items they never paid for in the first place and get cash back for them

    Its an outrage!

And yes while inconvenient for you, it discourages crime. The less money asda lose to shoplifting (for example) the lower prices they can offer to everyone.

As for the actual return, they actually have a very generous returns policy. They do have the legal right to ask for POP (although doesnt have to be a receipt when dealing with faulty/damaged goods) but they have no legal obligation to accept returns of items that didnt fit - with or without a receipt.

Although i dont see how an exchange would really benefit a shoplifter, unless they were selling them on but then technically, asda's already lost the money and exchanging them wouldnt make a difference.

But if a shoplifter wanted item x but it was by a camera, they can just nick item y (for same value) and return to swap for x. SO its Just that little bit extra deterrent.

I think the poster who said cutting of their nose to spite their own face perfectly sums up the OP.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

Sorry i should have clarified, i meant exchange for a different size. Not for another item.
