It will be on iplayer, but when is another matter.

They didn't explain the condition very well, and it made me mad when they twice said it was 'double jointedness' as an explanation, they didn't even mention why the condition could cause a spiral fracture. Prof Bird was only mentioned by name at the end as one of the key expert witnesses, but they referred to him as a RA specialist before and during the court case.
  • I have googled hypermobility and it sounds horrible I've never heard of it before and it sounds awful. My joints crack everytime I move and thats bad enough I can't begin to imagine what it's like for those of you that suffer from this.

Gentle hugs for all of you x

*growls* "Double-jointed" people get to have fun with their condition. Not it.

It's a bit more complicated than that. Just because a person is hypermobile doesn't mean that they have Hypermobilty Syndrome (HMS) and even with a diagnosis the severity of HMS can vary wildly. I consider myself very lucky because although I have significant mobility issues, I am in no way as severely affected as some people with the same condition. The condition, in laymans terms, can also be a 'symptom' of other conditions such as Marfans Syndrome and Ehler-Danlos. Also, my condition only affected mildly as a kid, in the sense that I was clumsy and always injurying myself, but the only pain I had was as a result of injury so I had a pretty normal childhood; some people don't have that luxury.

Thanks. Not going to lie, it can be pretty awful for those who have it severely. It's a big contribution to my fibromyalgia - sets it off constantly - and by the time I am my father's age, if not a good way before, I am likely to be in a wheelchair. Ash and I are the same age. I walk with a cane and am nearly housebound due to joint instability now.

I don't even want to think ten years ahead if I can help it. So I try not to. Just take it day by day and adapt as best one can to something like this. I don't ever want to be pitied.

It's not a symptom of EDS; it is a whole type in itself.
