Silly question I know, but does anyone else get any form of night terrors? I sleep exceptionally well, nothing wakes me but occasionally I wake up as I have a strange feeling and when I open my eyes and look round the room I see 'something' that makes me jump and I scream out in teror and often try and run from the room or at least get away from 'it'.

The panic lasts a few seconds and then my logical brain tells me I am hallucinating and I recheck and the thing has gone so I can get back into bed and go to sleep quite easily. However my poor OH who sleeps poorly then lays awake for the rest of the night in a state of panic.

I've had this since I was younger and my GPs have always said it is a side effect of migraines, but I am getting less and less migraines now but still get th enight terrors. I am trying to work out what triggers them and I suspect that taking certain pain killers 'might' just be a trigger but I'm not entirely sure it fits the pattern.

As I said it is a silly question and doesn't bother me too much but I am beginning to worry a great deal about my OH who really suffers and I can see his heart pounding afterwards (I really do scream and scream)

Not night terrors as such but I have dreams where I hear a fire alarm going off and that has me awake, heart pounding pretty damn quick! I can't then get back to sleep......all this was started when my smoke alarm became faulty last year and was going off at odd moments, most unsettling and had the result of making me exceedingly OCD about fire (I also have become OCD about flood after my neice flooded my bathroom, every drip I hear my heart pounds, I even imagine dripping now, kids think it is funny, I do not!)

I'm in a bit of a low mood tonight, been seeing all these posts on Facebook and articles in the paper about the midnight walk thing and realising that I can't do things like that anymore, no matter how much I tell myself I would like to. I could always walk for England, distance no object, just got a good stomp on and off I went but now I struggle to walk from the car park to the bloody supermarket!

    It's all so depressing.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I've experienced it a couple of times and was convinced the first time that my ex had broken in and was standing over me. (although that could quite easily be true, as he did it to at least 2 other girlfriends :() and once that there was a demon snarling at me.

After the initial terror, it was obvious that it was just a dream. But still horrible.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I've often thought my phone was ringing, I've heard it so clearly. Then woken up, well thought I had woken up, and the phone wasn't ringing or hadn't rung at all. Weird!!! This happens on a regular basis.. although nothing as scary as what you get Soolin.

Hugs Sue, hope you are feeling a bit more better this morning. xx

I had a freaky experience last night - apparently I had a whole conversation with OH over a cup of tea, and I was actually standing in the kitchen talking to him about this. But I have absolutely no recollection of getting up from the sofa or having this conversation. As far as I was aware I hadn't moved from the sofa all evening. Now that really freaked me out as I do have the odd conversation that I can't remember but that's usually saying yes or no. But this was a physical movement as well. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Please tell me it's normal on some meds or with BPD..

I find this thread a great relief sometimes as what seems very strange to one of us suddenly turns out to be almost normal. I'm very used to my night terrors and I know my sister and several of my female cousins have them too but maybe i am wrong to try an dlink it to meds and maybe it is just one of those things.

Now all I need to do is try and find a way to calming OH down when i wake him up screaming and trying to get out of the bedroom in the middle of the night!

Hope you are all Ok today and can get to do everything you need to, and be relaxed to ignore the things you can't manage today.

Oh and Natty could you have been in a sort of waking sleepwalk? My middle son could get up and do things with his eyes open in the middle of the night but actually be fast asleep.

    Hey Natty.

Not sure about the meds thing but disassociation is a common symptom in those with BPD.
I've often done things or had conversations with people that I have no recollection of.

I often get the situation of a "dream within a dream" iyswim - I'll be having a nightmare, think I've woken up, but I haven't, and the first nightmare was actually embedded in another one. Anyone who has seen the film "Inception" - it's that principle. It's very unpleasant, and is getting to the stage where I dread going to sleep.

Tell me about it!! BD comes and parks himself on my lap whenever I read about things others are doing that I can't because of this damned illness.:( It seems to reinforce how bl00dy useless I am now.:(

I get this loads - and I'm not even BPD! I wish I had £1 for every time Mr LW has mentioned something we've done, or a conversation we've had, etc, and I've had to say to him "I'm sorry, but I have absolutely no recollection of that".:(
