    Xmas Saver!
Long shot but have you tried Thomsom to see what they do, whether there is a hotel nearby,
I looked at Mexico next yr and wanted the 1st class, but they said it had gone was too expensive, they reckon the seats are bigger but thats not the point.

At the mo Thomas Cook own, Thomas Cook, Airtours, Co-op travel, and then the other is Thomsom (think First choice is in with them) may be worth a try.

I'd go for cuba, you've not had an easy 12 months, and the thing is you want to go back to Cuba, why compromise and go somewhere else and say save £500, and not really enjoy it.... Go for Cuba xx

there is definitely only thomas cook/airtours that fly into Cayo Coco airport..so if I want to go and stay at our favourite place then thomas coom it will have to be...just wanted to go back there for old times sake.

Another place I fancied was Varadeero but it's coming in at £5k for two of us for 3 weeks in a really good hotel inc 1st class seats with 1st choice.

Or we'll go somewhere completely different but I really want to go back to the Sol cayo coco ..it was the best holiday we ever had...

There is a travle insurance company that was set up by a woman who couldn't find anything suitable after she had had cancer. I'll do some internet searching and see if I can come back with a link.

I flit about in diaries so I'm not sure if you have started radio yet. Be aware that you may feel completely exhausted at the end of treatment (if you weren't already ...). Are you having Herceptin or other drugs after?

Poot to the lack of 1st Class! Are they doing ANY form of upgrade or is everyone in Cattle Class? I hate to say this as well BUT if they have downgraded the aircraft, they may have downgraded the resort as well - this happened to me in Italy (went one year to a fantastic hotel in Malcesne (sp) two years later it was horrible and filled with families aiming to get as sloshed as possible at every hour of the day and night)

Oh! Dragon has a point there, about the resort being downgraded. I'd say, go for what you really want - you need that. I'd also say, check out what its like now on tripadvisor - realistic, unguarded comments, and you need that if you're spending this kind of money.

I checked trip advisor and it's the same as usual at the moment. All thomas cook long haulflights will no longer have any premium seats from 2011..so anyone that likes to be fly premium class will not be using thomas cook...think it's going to be a bad move on their part.
Northern las ...I have found a few specialist firms for insurance.I started rads last week and have had 4 out of 15 now.No tamoxifen etc for me as unfortunately have triple negative breast cancer.

Karma..am not sure yet what to do about the holiday yet.
  • That's a shame about the first class thing. It certainly would seem to be likely that if the premium passengers are no longer catered for, that the resort may well follow in not being the same place you remember. We were originally intending that, for our tenth wedding anniversary earlier in the year, we would re-trace the steps of our honeymoon in travelling round the UK on the train. In the end we decided against as we had *such* a fabulous time when we did it the first time we felt it would be a shame to do it again and then it maybe not be as good, so we did something completely different in the end. A bit rambly but I guess what I am getting at is, maybe try to think whether there is anywhere else that you would REALLY like to go, and look into options there? Sounds like you'd already be compromising on the travel arrangements you want for Cuba, and it would be very easy to fall into the trap of ending up being forced inton a compromise on lots of small things.

How long would you be able to leave it before booking to get an idea how things are going once the first class travel has been gone for a while?

Oh, and 4 out of 15 is more than a quarter of the way through! :T

I was thinking along the same lines as EH. Keep your memories precious of your best ever holiday and try somewhere else - even another place in Cuba. If you have to compromise, you'll be comparing it to the "perfect" holiday and for whatever reason, it's bound not to be exactly the same.

Everything happens for a reason, so maybe you could investigate the other destinations they fly First to? If not, there are always more ways to skin a cat - so don't give up on the dream!
Take care and hope the rads are going as well as they can do xxx

    Hi Taxi,

cant offer any Cuban advice but I do think that you deserve a first class holiday, wherever it may be. Just make sure that you are fit to fully enjoy it

    Hey Taxi,

Have you looked at whether you can do the first class bit by flying to Havana or another main airport and then get an internal flight? Just an idea!

When we were looking at Cuba we tried a couple of specialist companies trail finders and also journey Latin America. Maybe see if they can organise a package for you.

Great news on rads - to have it all done by the end of the year. I'm sure you'll bd glad to see the back of it all!

    Urg x x
P.s. Hope family is all ok.
