good morning one and all. what a fine cloudy day it is too.

So, news from the land of p. hmm, where to start?? I am shattered, there we go that is a good starting point!! I drove across to coventry last night and had a really nice meal with hypno and the hypnettes, mushroom risotto and a bottle of beer! yum! was lovely to have a catch up and sorry hypno for letting you down and not bringing my running kit with me. Lets face it a 4 mile run in coventry, which neither of us have any clue about was always going to turn into 20 miles so it was probably a good job!!!

Well the envelope system is well and truly up and running. £199 has been transferred over to my savings and D is in possession of my bank card so there can be no swapping it back! I have a dog walking job saturday evening, which is 2 hours spent out walking with my absolute favourite girls so that i absolutely no hardship at all and i get paid for the priveledge!! that will be an extra £20 which I may use for a haircut as I am starting to look shaggier than the dulux dog!! I am also going to put some adverts out around me for an ironing service. 50p per item or 25p for childrens clothing under 5... I have lots of time on my hands after work at the moment so it will be easy money if i get any business!!!

The meeting at work didnt go so well. we are being cut from a 19.4% shift allowance to 2.4%. a gross loss each year of £4098 from my salary or a net loss of £190 after tax. I have a savings scheme with work which i have been paying into since january which if i cash it in will only give me £64 back when I have paid in so far £210. my dilemma is do i keep paying into it, knowing that for £30 per month my return will be very small and therefore i am wasting money if further down the line i need that money and have to cancel it, ie am i throwing good money after bad? or do i continue to pay into it, take the pain of it being £30 per month i could do with and allow it to mature in another 9 1/2 years for a hopefully good return!! help!! :rotfl: They are also looking to centralise us to one location meaning an increase of approx £1000 per year on my diesel costs. I just cant swallow that amount of money. So, job hunting it is!!! self employment is seriously tempting i have to admit, atleast that way you are in charge of your own destiny. I just need to find a way (aka funding!!) to set it up!!

    Decisions decisions....

OMG that is a shocking reduction and obviously there is nothing you can do about it, which is very frustrating. Are you in an ambulance crew (don't ask me why I think that!)

I would keep paying in, as you know from your insurance days, it will come back up and surely we will be out of recession in 9.5 years so bonuses should improve, even on with profits. Right now if you take it out, you have lost £148. I would keep an eye on it for a while.

Self employment - ugh, its a difficult life as I too well know. But you could 'dip your toe in the water' and see what reaction you get. I don't know if you would be charging/paying VAT, the increase will have a massive impact on SE peeps - 2.5% is a huge increase and it will affect everything because the charge will go on fuel and therefore raw materials (which are not VATable) will increase too (and I bet by more than 2.5%)

Decisions decisiions is right but you will make the right ones for you I am sure.

hi rmc thanks for that hon. i'll talk to D about it and see what he thinks but i know that loosing £184 would absolutely suck to be fair. its one of the plans that after the first 5 years you get back more than you've paid in but before that its nada.
Re s/e work. its interesting to talk to someone who is there at the moment as it would be a big leap to make... hmmm, *ponders*

WOW P that's some loss....don't envy you that.
If you do go s/e can you still pay into the savings?
Is it the right time to become s/e and will people want your services if they too may be facing pay cuts and having to cut back.
At least you have a wage at the moment.

Hi Taxi. just to nip back and answer reds question, I work as a civilian in the police. I used to be an officer. have to say now i'm glad that I'm not the latter and wont be the former for much longer!!

At the moment i have a salary and that is vitally important. but every job i find something happens. whether it is my total bully of a boss that was, or someone who changes my contract with 24 hours notice then !!!!!!s off owing me 7k, or a job i'm recruited to do then back filled into a receptionists position, and now this, when you are employed you are completely out of control. and at others mercy. if i could get myself in a position of self employment then yes, I believe that I would be ok. If i went self employed, or even part time in my current role, part time in a self employed role then i believe i would be better off than i am now. I have 2 business ideas both of which need developing with regards to feasability and cost. if it is a total no go then atleast i have investigated it and ticked it off the list! gosh doesnt life throw us curve balls sometimes!! but one thing i can say is that i am happy. as happy as i have been in a very long time. and that is a very good thing.
    So, summary for today...
expenditure £1.95 woop!! lowest thats been in eons!
food diary, fresh raspberries with greek total 0% yogurt.
brie and cucumber sarnie... oops on lots of scores!!
2 quorn chicken style burgers with a small squirt of salad cream.
pint of ribena and numerous cups of decaff tea.
    looking good!!

exercise, 3 mile fast pace run.

    right, bed time. night all!!
