My kitchen bin still smells!!!

If the bin is relatively new are you sure that it isn't the smell of the materials the bin is made of? (I think this is called out gassing or something.)0
-
Are you sure it's the platic inner bin that smells? There may be some old food trapped in a crevice in the lid or something?0
-
It sounds like there is something nasty trapped where you can't see it? I use those disinfecting wet wipes from Lidl for my bin, cheap, effective and smell nice.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

Anyone got a solution to a chronically smelly kitchen bin?
It's one of those chrome tall flip-lid types, so it's closed most of the time, which I suspect is trapping all the rotten food smells in - yuck!
I've tried cleaning it out with bleach, which works but not for long. Every time I open it to put something in the horrible smell escapes and makes the whole kitchen reek!
I chucked a couple of spoonfuls of bicarb in there today -will this keep those odours at bay do you think?0 -
I'm assuming you use bin bags? My tip would be a few drops of tea tree oil when you have cleaned the bin & before you put the new bag in.....0

Bicarb worked for me when getting rid of manky mouldy potato smell from my kitchen cupboard so would hope it works for you too!Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0

Does it not have an inner portion that can be pulled out for a good scrub? I second the advice to use a bin liner if you aren't already. If your binliners leak then maybe you need to invest in more expensive, thicker binbags.
I haven't tried it myself but I have heard that putting a layer of cat litter in the bottom will help absorb smells and leaks.0 -
I got rid of my kitchen bin for this reason. I now just put rubbish from a meal into a carrier bag, tie it up and chuck it in the bin outside.0

I have Zoflora diluted in a squirty bottle and I use a couple of quick quirts if I think its getting smelly...that seems to work.We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0

May be a silly question but are you emptying it often enough. I live on my own so if I'm being good thats one bin bag a week but if I put something like old bread or chicken carcass in there it is going to stink to high heavens after a couple of days - so I have to empty it more often, maybe even if its not full.
Otherwise a good scrub should get rid of any smells. There isnt anything on the lid inside is there? That could be it.The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0
