 as the title states really!!
I have followed the tips given in the thread listed in the mega index and cleaned it using bleach and hot water, disinfectant, bicarb... (obviously not all at the same time!!!) but it still stinks!! I change the bin liner at least every other day and we don't really throw any food into it!!
It's a stainless steel bin with a plastic inner that comes out. We've never had problems before but just lately it reeks!! Please help - I'm lost for what to do!!!
Thanks!

Maybe you could try mixing a paste with bicarb + vinegar as that's supposed to be good for blocking stinky drains. How old is the bin? Perhaps the plastic has gone sour!!!
Hope you sort it out there's nothing worse...0 -
The bin is 2 months old!!! Bought it brand new when we moved into our flat!!
Have tried bicarb sprinkled in the bottom of the bin after cleaning it (as it's suppposed to absorb odours) but not tried cleaning with it, thanks for the suggestion!0 -
how strange!
I know it might sound silly, but what is the smell? is it off food rotting smell or something else? Could something be trapped in any part of it you can't get to?
I clean my bin with soda crystals and hot water, then leave it outside for a bit before pouring away and then leaving it to dry thoroughlly before using it. damp can let things breed.
perhaps some tea tree oil in it might help if the bicarb is slow to deodorise it?0 -
Can you get it out in the sun for a few hours? Sun bleaching can really get rid of nasty niffs.0

you can get them bin freshnersNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

Take it outside and give it a good clean with some Jeyes fluid.
We do this with out big wheelie bin when it's been emtied and have the sweetest bin in the neighbourhood. But mind you empty it down an outside drain as it's toxic to plants.0 -
Presumably you've cleaned the outer bin as well as the inner bit? And the inside and outside of both, and under the rim and round any handles? Wizz do a bin freshener spray which is good, but has a tendency to dye white plastic pink.0

Once you solve the problem, a sheet of fabric conditioner in the bin between bin liner and outer shell, can help keep it smelling a bit nicer. Last for a little while, so don't need to change everytime you change bin liner. I guess on the same principle a tissue with a few drops of essential oil would work too.0

i second the soda crystals to clean then tea tree oil in the bottom idea0

As an alternative to making a paste with vinegar and bicarb, I spray my bath with vinegar and then sieve bicarb over it. When I am ready I go back and wipe it off which makes it go into a paste taking all the crud off the bath with it.
This might be worth a try with the bin as it means it can be left on for a while to try to neutralise the niff.
Otherwise, I agree with the soda and tea tree oil.0
