I've just done a similar recipe today as the cheap 28p flour, but this time I used Lidl's bread flour (60p 1.5k) and this was much better.
500g flour
300ml warm water
1 tbsp sunflower oil
1 level tsp salt
1 level tsp sugar
7g dried yeast (full packet this time)
Baked on setting 1, but this time on a 700g loaf and light crust. Best result so far doing it non-packet.
Has anyone tried just making just the dough and baking rolls in the oven??
Lynsey
Glad you've had better results Lynsey
I've made the pizza dough and it was fab - comes up lovely in the oven.
I bought some of the wright's mixes yesterday (using the coupons :T). Also got some cake mixes. The toffee cake is delicious.
Made the cheese & onion bread this morning. Don't know if its just me, but it seems to have a bit of a funny after taste.
I really need to find some way of learning to cut bread properly, the slices are all over the place.
I'm also going to try to make chilli jam on the jam setting :gulp:
Finefoot: What is the recipe for cinnamon rolls please? Or is it in the book and I haven't seen it?:rotfl:0 -
To improve the above, and assuming the offer is still on Holland and Barrett have 500 grams of sunflower seeds for 99p.
Normally £3.0 -

Hi,
I have made dough nearly every day since buying the breadmaker. My DS/DD and her boyfriend make pizza bases most days (they are lovely).
This breadmaker has saved me a lot of 'dough' lol. I supply the dough ingredients and all types of diff toppings and they are happy.
Also, I have baked all shapes of rolls. They are lovely aswel.
I must say I have enjoyed reading this thread, with all the diff experiences encountered by all.
I will be trying all the recipies when I have the time.
Thanks0 -

For those having problems with the texture, are you using strong bread flour? that has a high gluten content, regular flour wont ever turn out like a shop bought one.
Yes, the stronger bread flour was much, much better (my 1st attempt with the 28p Aldi flour was just to see the result, and it was pretty good, but tasteless). Next will be to add seeds to my loaf, or to just make the dough and make rolls in the oven.

Rises fine, looks fine but very open, and i'm not even getting a crumb. More like a crumpet then bread. Very spongy too!
I used recipe 1 for white bread except I replaced 1 TBSP of oil with butter.
Any help appreciated.
I have to say, regardless of what the recipe says I NEVER add oil to bread recipes...it's not actually needed! My bread has more of a ciabatta texture which goes down really well in my house!0 -

Do you only add water or add say some milk??
I'm thinking of trying some milk the next time.
