Anyone got any tips on Pizza dough ?

We made them tonight and were fantastic, but struggled to stretch the dough as it was so elastic and sticky , any tips to make it easier to work with ?
to combat the stickiness try working in a little flour by hand &/or dust your worksurface with flour or better still cornmeal/polenta

for that annoying springing back where the dough won't stay the shape & size you want it to, try refrigerating for 24 hours & you'll find it much easier to work with
I've only tried it with dough from a different make of machine or hand-made, but the principal's the same

I portion it into pizza sized bits, form into balls & put them on an oiled tray covered with clingfilm before putting in the fridge, let it come back to room temperature before shaping

    HTH :)

Omg , i threw my paddle away in the end of a loaf !!. had to get the whole bin out to find the bread to pull the paddle out lol

but im betting im not the only one to do it (i hope lol )

Lol. You need to remember to "open other end" next time.
I wonder how many paddles have been lost this way??

Doing the sunflower loaf (Wright's again) later.

    Hi guys,

I bought this for my mom's birthday, which is tomorrow.
I'd like her to wake up to fresh bread tomorrow morning.

Having never made bread and being a complete noob to cooking, can anyone offer a fool-proof recipe for me dazzle her olifactory senses on the morning of her birthday please?

Something slightly different to plain white bread would be fab, but if the plain white is excellent (compared to supermakret stuff) then that will be fine too.
For example, can a noob like me attempt to use something like this for my first time and be confident of getting it right:

    - looks deeeeeeelicious!

    Thank you

I made that two days ago as my first loaf - eating some now. It turned out pretty well and it is tasty. I added the recommended 315 mls of water, used the Ultra-Fast II setting and let it bake for the set 58 minutes. The back of the pack will say that if you use the whole 500g mix in a breadmaker you'll get an 800g loaf, but we only get 700 and 900g options, so I chose Ultra-fast II (which is for a 900g loaf) and hoped for the best.

It turned out to be very slightly undercooked in the middle, but I like bread that way so I was happy with that. I took it out as soon as the cooking programme was done, but if you leave it in a for a little longer under the Keep Warm function that automatically continues for up to an hour after cooking, it might eliminate that problem (if you see it as a problem).

    Hope this helps!

That is very useful info. Thank you.

Been googling my fingers off for the last hour trying to find a good flour/water combo for '50-50' bread.

My first couple of loaves will be with ready mixes from Wrights etc. After that, I want to use my own flour etc as that sounds like lots of fun and fingers crossed, greater flavour.

Anyone have a foolproof non-breadmix recipe?

I've come to realise that something close to this should turn out fine:

    3/4 tsp of dried yeast
400g flour (white or brown - half and half for a wholemeal or 300g white/100g brown for a loaf with a nice edge)
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp runny honey
    1 tbsp olive oil
    300ml water
    1 tea spoon lemon/orange juice

Not sure how long to bake though.

    Thanks

Re: losing the bread maker paddle

If you always feed your leftover bread to the birds you will find your paddle while breaking it up instead of it going into the bin....

hope you dont mind my little tip, it saves on landfill and feeds the birds (the birds must be starving round here they eat any solid crust)!

  • To all of us who have bought breadmakers recently, get your flour mixes before the prices go up - Russia has banned grain exports for the rest of the year and prices are going to rise (no pun intended).
Don't know whether Asda will keep their 2 Hovis mixes for a £1 offer as advertised until then.

Managed to get one of the few remaining in Edinburgh last week. Great find by the OP. Been making a loaf every couple of days and they seem to be getting better the more I make :rotfl:

Been making from scratch and from packet mix. Wright's Parmesan and Sun Dried Tomato mix (available in Tesco) is a definite favourite.

We bought the last model in the shop, which was the display model. As the shop was about the close we didnt have time to check it, and when we got home found that the kneading paddle and all the other bits were missing.

After some to-ing and fro-ing with currys and partmaster we've managed to get our local currys to agree to refund the cost of ordering the kneading paddle from partmaster. As others have said it is this one:

    http://www.partmaster.co.uk/cgi-bin/product.pl?PID=1088224&query=MORPHY%20RICHARDS%2048268%20BREADMAKER

Currys have asked us to print the receipt and take it into the shop for a refund. So its worth ringing your local shop to see if you can do something similar.
