    Hi Guys,

I appreciate your concern however I have already raised this and the interference itself isn't a result of the supplier. The issue, which I am fully aware of having investigated this with the TalkTalk Faults Teams, is actually caused by people. The issues have a tendency to correlate to Friday/Saturday nights as I live in a Town Centre location.

As such there is little gained from me raising this again to my supplier (i.e. TalkTalk) as the issue is not with the service as supplied. Likewise as the issue is on the BT Open Reach maintained wiring coming into my property, but not as a result of normal wear and tear as covered by BTORs minimum service obligations, I would be subject to any engineer charges.

A far more effective method is to be vigilant of the presence of individuals around my property as the phone line is on an external pavement adjacent wall. In the event this resulted in a complete loss of service and an engineer visit, I would be liable for the engineer charges due to the vandalism caused to my line being beyond BTOpen Reach's control.

As a related issue Ive also had occasional issues with my Sky box connection, again however this is a result of the cable from my Sky box to the Dish being on the same wall and subject to the same human interference i.e "what happens when I pull this"

As such I have received all the support I require from my service providers to establish the cause of these issues. I have only given an open and honest account of my experience in respect to the issues raised.

    Regards

    M:)

    Ok im confused.
have you posted this in your capacity of Talk Talk Rep or did you mean to post this under a different login? or is this a quote from someone else.
You need to clarify as it looks dubious at best.

Ok now reread the thread and seen you hijacked with your personal issues half way through, glad you have now solved your own problems in work time, now back to your paying customers issues....
  • You lot are seriously not getting the point here! You have got skys equipment, from sky, which they have clearly stated is ONLY compatible with BT and sky lines, yet your winging cos it dosnt work on talk talk lines, even though uv been told its not compatible in the t&c's. In what way is it talk talks fault that you blatently ignored skys advice and connected thier equipment to an incompatible line.
I suppose when you buy a new car and told its unleaded, you take it to the petrol station and decide to ignore the what uv been told and put desiel in it. Then blame the petrol garage for your mistake.
Its skys equipment, the only people who can make it compatible with other companies equipment is sky, and thats only if they can be bothered to. So i suggest you start having a go at sky and get them to do something about it instead of trying to take the blame away from yourselves.
If your buying a new router, you check so see if its a cable one if your on Virgin, or ADSL modem if your not do you not so whats the difference with any other equipment and any other provider. The trouble is too many people just assume that just because somethings got a telephone plug on the end, they dont have to check compatibility.

Strange that the Sky Receivers function fine with all other providers, other than Talk Talk,( not just BT and Sky ).

Still if people are happy to pay Talk Talk for a service that isn't as compatible as other providers with Sky, I suppose that is their choice.

I am sure Talk Talk could make their equipment to the normal standard if they chose to.
  • Is this actually true. Where in Sky's T&C does it say only BT and Sky lines. From the Sky website small print today - all it says is a fixed line:

Sky Multiroom: £10 pm. Provides the same Sky TV channels as your main Sky TV subscription on a box in another room. You must subscribe to Sky TV throughout and an extra box is required for each Multiroom subscription. Each box you have must be connected to the same fixed telephone line at all times. To receive your HD subscription channels in another room, you'll need another Sky+HD box and HD Pack subscription.

If Sky was really not compatible with TT then the internet would be full of posts - sounds like the OP is just unlucky. Sky and TT are both too big for any one to want each others user base to be off limits.

I have to say the TT rep has not been much use here though. Surely the thing to do would be to say "of course TT is compatable with Sky, TT have 1000s of customers who use Sky with no issues"

Or does silence actually speak a 1000 words.....?

There clearly is a compatibility issue with Sky Multiroom and Talk Talk telephones, all other telephone providers systems are compatible, it is just Talk Talks that isn't, it seems.

    Hi All,

Kurtis - I was not hijacking the thread as I seek no support myself, only clarified for the purposes of another poster why my issue is beyond the control of any ISP. My advice as a TT rep is given with the respect of both my professional capacity and experience as a TalkTalk customer.

Inactive - I agree if there is evidence of an issue of compatibility that this can be investigated into. I have personally seen no such evidence of a consistent trend of issues, however if anyone encountering problems would like to raise this to the Members Forum we can collate evidence of anyone affected tos ee if there is a common issue we can investigate. This may be a limited area of the TT network or a particular batch of Sky boxes, however finding the correlating factors in this matter would be the first port of call.

Mondeo Man - To advise that the Sky Box is compatible with the TT service is not something I can do. Only Sky can give you this assurance that the updates completed by the Sky box is compatible with all LLU equipment currently in use. As Sky appear to have advised the OP that their box is only compatible with BT or Sky Lines I can only reflect this advice. It would indicate no Sky's advice is LLU providers and Cable lines are not compatible, indicated by their exclusion in the describe compatible lines. As TT do not provide support for SKY boxes we cannot comment on their compatibility, for any issues experienced with TT a Sky box would be removed as part of diagnostic testing. Any issues that were encountered with or by the Sky box would require support from Sky to investigate as this is not supported in respect to the TT service.

Ollie - Im not really sure it is a matter of apportioning blame at this point. UNtil such a time that there is sufficient evidence to suggest the root cause of this issue it would be in vain to speculate on a cause. This may be an individual faulty box or a fault on the line, it may be a software version incompatibility or local network issue or any number of factors. As you have stated many TT customers do use Sky equipment without complaint, however if there is evidence of a compatibility issue we would ned to collate examples of this in order to investigate before establishing who, if anyone, is responsible for a resolution.

  • Mark @ TT - I do appreciate your position. As official TT spokesman you need to play it completely straight and cannot open yourself up to any potential claims if anything you say implies something that turns out not to be true, but I'm sure you can see why this is frustrating.

All we are seeking (as TT customers who might need to use the Sky multiroom service) is assurance that we haven't gone for the wrong phone/broadband supplier as let's face it, if TT was really not compatible with Sky then this is a huge own goal. By all means take the view that if the phone and BB works OK for any user then your line is OK but if everyone other company's line works with Sky and yours does not then even though technically it is Sky's fault in reality it is TT's as there must be something about the TT network that is different to the norm.

If TT have not been deluged with complaints then I suspect TT is fine and the individual users do have an unlucky issue. I think the Sky engineer in this case was wrong - noone has been able to demonstrate in this forum sky's official T&C wording that says only BT and Sky line works.

However, that said, what we need TT to say is "by design, there is no reason why TT is not compatible with Sky and just like anyone else's network it should be. Individual circumstances may have individual issues that need investigating, and the fault may or may not be with TT, but there is no systematic reason why a Sky multiroom service cannot work with a TT LLU network"

On a separate note sky is now so expensive I was thinking of cancelling and looking at Talk Talk TV but this seems even more expensive!! Have I got this right - the full sky package inc sport and movies will be £51pm but the full TTTV package is a whopping £70pm??? Also, can you get TTTV in multi rooms via a phone line without an additional subscription? And why do TTTV boxes only have one IPTV input - that puts me right off.
  • UPDATE!!

Anyone following this thread should also look at the TT members forum (talktalkmembers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=507115) and a more upfront TT response:

Mark @ TT - perhaps you need to speak to Stephen @ TT and get the official story straight.....

TT STBs and PVRs do receive Freeview transmissions (if available in the area) as well as the IPTV.

Long-term TV customers have been wondering when/how further development might take place following the takeover of Tiscali by TT: when are we getting interactive? what's happening re HD (there has been at least one download trial, a Harry Pottier movie or series of - I didn't have an HD TV at the time so am not familiar with details). TT is signed up to Canvas, it looks as though big changes might be afoot... eventually

Current TTTV/Phone/BB packages are very competitive, in the opinion of customers I have dealings with on various forums, with the relative cheapness of adding Sky channels being commented on quite often. I don't expect TT ever to deliver the hundreds of junk channels that satellite does.

  • I have Sky HD in one room, another Sky HD box in another room (so, multiroom) and get my phone & broadband services from TT. Never had any issues.
