How did the curry turn out. It sounds good as I did mine with no meat at all and it was still delicious.:):)

The curry was great, thanks. A little watery because I thought it was going to be too dry with only 1 tin of toms so added the water I'd softened the veggies in. I would have thickened it up but had to collect Dad from hospital and take him home, and Mr TM couldn't POSSIBLY do that sort of thing.:D By the time I got home, was too hungry to bother.
However, still tasted fab. I didn't even need rice as there were so many potatoes in and Mr TM ate up some from the fridge. The meat was gorgeous, having been slow-cooked twice. Now I know what to do with left over roast beef etc.
Off to search the slow cooker thread for more recipes for tomorrow0 -
My kids love pasta but I find I get in a rut and have it the same way with the same old things. I'm looking for pasta recipes, sauces for pasta and what other people throw together to make a quick and cheap pasta meal. Anyone got any ideas?0

I got this from "feed the family for a fiver"
Cooked chicken cut into small pieces (one chicken leg will do)
Grated carrots
Tin tomatoes
Garlic
Frozen peas
Onions (1 large)
Soy sauce.
Use a wok or large frying pan and cook onions, garlic and carrots - then add chicken and tomatoes - cook for 10 mins - add peas and dash of soy sauce.
Pasta has been cooking while you were doing this so drain pasta and add to wok and let mix together for a couple of minutes- then serve.
If you want to adapt it by adding mushrooms or sweetcorn etc you can"This site is addictive!"

Anyone got any pasta recipes that don't involve tinned tomatoes?
No offence Elona, your recipe does sound yummy and a bit different to what I usually make, I am going to try it, it's just that nearly all of my recipes (for everything) involve tinned tomatoes. I recon I could probably do the grocery challenge for £5.10 (thats 30 tins of chopped tomatoes - because in Aldi chopped are the same price as whole)
I can thoroghly recommend the only pasta recipe I use which doesn't involve tomatoes which is Caterinas recipe:

I have a couple of things i do with pasta that are always well received:
cheats carbonara
put pasta on to boil
put bacon on to fry/grill
mix three eggs with a pot of low fat fromage frais
add seasoning and fresh grated parmesan cheese (couple of ounces)
when the bacon is crisp break into pieces (four or five slices of lean back bacon is good)
when pasta is cooked strain and return to hot pan (up to about 500g depening on how hungry three people are)
add promage frais/egg mix to hot pasta and allow it to 'cook' the egg
mix well
add broken up bacon bits
I also do a chicken and mushroom sauce:
fry an onion and chicken breasts and mushrooms
add either a tin of mushroom soup or a cuppa soup mixed with milk or a couple of chicken/veg stock cubes with a good slug of milk to the frying pan
simmer until thickened
serve with tagliatelle
I am sure you could fiddle with it to get it to your own taste and with whatever youhave in the cupboard, you can also thicken the milky sauce with cornflour slated with a little water if you would rather it a bit thicker.Blah0 -
1 tub mascapone - £1.28
1 large onion
aldi black forest ham - £1.19 (you only need just over half the packet)
garlic
herbs
balsamic vinegar
a bit of milk
This makes enough for two dinners for two adults, and each time I have this there's also enough for 1 or 2 lunches after each dinner. The mascapone tub is also the right size for half the sauce so you can freeze it for another day.
Not for people on a diet though because I mascapone's fat content is fairly high.0 -
Thanks everyone. These recipes are great - can't wait to try them!0
