For a quick and cheap desert try syrup sponge in the microwave. A couple of spoonfuls of syrup (or apples/tinned peaches...) in a bowl, sponge mixture on top and about 6ish mins on high. Well easy to make, tastes lovely and most people have sponge ingredients in the store cupboard.

Must be cheap as a 56 kilo bag (not a typo!) of Thapathi flour cost £2.20. Daal is cheap, as are spices.

Use a mix of dalls to get all the essential amino acids, or stick to mysore (split red lentil)

Hi Liz, will post my sausage casserole recipe for you

1 packet of sausages (I use 8 fat sausages)
    1 tin baked beans
    1 tin tomatoes
    1 red pepper
    1 green pepper
    dash of worcestershire sauce

Brown the sausages in a pan, add peppers to soften. Add tin of baked beans and tin of tomatoes with a sprinkling of worcestershire sauce to taste. Simmer until sausages are cooked.

    Its delicious!

I'm having channa massala (reduced from tesco), with kidney beans (dented tin) added for extra oopmfh and jacket spuds (from a big bag that had been reduced). I reckon its less than £1 for three portions.
