    Hi all

Thought I would give you a report on what it was like today!

Well we gave notice and it was all very exciting!
We got in the registry office and the registrar came out and said that she would see us separately- me first.
So I went in and she put the details of the date, venue etc in to her computer- asked to see both of our ID- my driving licence, my birth certificate and my passport. My hubby to be’s passport, birth cerfiticate and his P60 (we had trouble finding something with his address on, as he doesn’t drive and is paper free from his bank, but the P60 was fine)
She then put his details on the computer- half looking at the documents and asking me- his name, DOB, address, occupation.also asked my dads name and occupation. they did ask my hubby2be this question- about his dad, but he doesn't know who he is, and this was fine.
    Then I paid- £33.50 each.
Then she called him in and I waited outside. She asked him to confirm his name address etc and occupation and my details. And that was it.
The notice will be up in the office for 2 weeks, then they will send a letter to the registry office of the county where our venue is.

So it was all very exciting!- a little nervous, but more exciting than anything!

When me and OH came out after giving notice, we looked at each other smirking and said "well that's it, it's definitely happening now!" :D

Glad it went well and glad the ID was all OK! xx

recieved a pack from the registry office this morn- with suggested readings, vows and info about paying the rest of the fees. we will meet the registra conducting the cermoney a month before the wedding.
the booklet is lovely- they have put our names and details of the venue/time etc in it.
also states that you can buy a commemorative certicate for £7- is in colour, states details of venue, witnesses, date etc. would b nice on the wall

I haven't been able to give notice yet as it's more than a year away. I did try to book a slot so we can do it as soon as possible once we get to the magic 12 months away date but they almost laughed at me and told me they didnt book anything that early. I'm getting stupidly twitchy about wanting to do it so we can then have it properly confirmed with the registrar where we're marrying - not the same area as where we live.
The registrars where we're marrying sounded much nicer when I spoke to them on the phone. Looking forward to seeing that pack - ours will be the same one that you got Sammy as we're both marrying in Chester
  • I'm getting married in Las Vegas on 20 Oct 2011. What happens about giving notice when you're marrying abroad? I'm guessing we go to the local registry office beforehand (in plenty of time) and that's it.
I know when we get to Vegas we have to get our marriage licence from the courthouse before we can marry, but is that all we need to do in the UK?
    Thanks!
