It's reasonably formal (though I had the giggles) - they tell you about the seriousness of getting married then ask you both questions about yourselves and each other.
Eg - Are you realted, have either of you been married before, have you been known with a different name before etc.

Also, they asked us for the details of the registrar & venue.

We did well not to laugh either, I think its a nervous thing! I was really worried that one of us (probably me, I get sarcastic or start laughing when nervous) was going to say the wrong thing and they would tell us we couldn't get married, but it was ok.

For us (might be a little different as we are in Staffordshire and they might do things a little different elsewhere) they just asked us to confirm eachothers names, address, where we are getting married, that we weren't related / already married etc. Then we confirmed our Dads names, job title and they printed off a form with it all on that we scribbled on.

We had a quick look in the room as it was free, and they gave us a booklet that we have to complete and take back at least a month before the wedding - choose the vows or readings (you can make your own up but I think you have to get them approved before hand) and choices like songs and who is going to give you away etc.

Is ok and quite exciting...as long as you don't start laughing :)

hehe- so no to saying the wrong thing and try to laugh quietly :)

We had to be interviewed seperately, but it's nothing to panic or be nervous about!

They ask questions about yourself, your OH and your Fathers. (Well they asked us anyway)

We didn't get to see who will be marrying us, but I'm sure it would be OK to pop in and ask nearer the time ~ nobody wants an old dragon marrying them do they!

Or like another poor bride on here ~ her registrar was telling her that SHE (the reg that is) was going to walk in first??? to be followed by the bridesmaids and the bride.

We had to pay £37.50 each to give notice, and we were given a booklet with all stuff in it about ceremonies and with 2 sets of vows we can choose from.

We pay on the day as we're actually getting married at the reg office so won't need to do anything else now till then, but if you are in England and are having a civil ceremony at a hotel or the likes, you have to pay a couple of weeks before the day. (Or you do with our reg office anyway!)

It's quite exciting giving notice actually, OH's work pal does the lifts at the reg office and rang to tell us our names were up!

I liked it when they ask you if you are both related by blood....I mean....Do people really try and get married when they are related?:rotfl::rotfl:

We are going on Monday and I am very nervous about it! I have been told to take my mum and dad's marriage certificate and my mum's birth certificate as I don't have a passport. Need some other info too

We are 33.50 each! Found it funny that it is charged per person but we have to attend together!

I was so nervous! I don't know why. We had a bit of a hiccup as well because she asked me to repeat my full name and I included my middle name, which isn't actually on my passport... then I forgot where it said I was born!! argh nightmare. I was so worried she thought I was an imposter haha.
