ive been present when my mot tester has logged into the system.. and it does not ask how many seats are present.. how do you think one seater vans etc are tested lol... if you remove the seat then remove the seatbelt for said seat as the seatbelt would fail due to being no latch for it to click into..
i have taken many a track car into mot centres with only a drivers seat in and its fine and will not fail for no passenger seat..

My estate car has been in for it's last 2 mots with the rear seats removed, I keep it like that for the load space.

It was explained to me that that was not an issue but as the seat belts were present they would be tested as normal ie for condition and function. Same garage always check that all seat backs lock, and the seat is held to the floor and does not tilt or slip forwards.

It's a none issue regarding rears, front passenger? 5mins to bolt back in so why not do that rather then ask for OPINIONS on an open website???
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Well I was sad enough to go into my local independent garage at lunch time and ask the owner, who is also the MoT tester about this seat question.

His opinion (and, of course, it is only his opinion) is that if the seats are not there they cannot be tested and so cannot fail. If the seatbelts were present he would test them in the normal way.

So one tester, with about 20 years experience, would pass the vehicle with the seats removed. Purely anecdotal of course.

I don't think it's sad and I think he's right. There are several issues of if it ain't fitted it can't be tested. ;)

That ties neatly into my thoughts, no legal requirement to have a passenger seat therefore no requirement to have one fitted for an MOT test

And I’m sad enough to find myself wondering about testing the seat belts on missing seats…….if there is no seat then is the seatbelt provided for that seat still a seat belt (which needs testing) rather than a luggage strap (which doesn’t)?

Surely an item of retractable, locking, webbing restraining equipment which doesn’t have an associated seat doesn’t qualify as a seat belt?

What if the catch bit is built into the seat and therefore sitting in the garage at home rather than being presented for the MOT test??

And the reel bit which is sometimes built into the seat frame?

So many questions….so little time before the weekend starts

You deleted your post? Too late:p.

:rotfl:Good Q's about the seatbelts. I don't think he'd welcome a whole load of new Qs, though. :rotfl:

Anecdotal is better than random stabs in the dark presented as fact which a lot of the posts on this thread seem to be and it ties neatly into my thoughts……. no legal requirement to have a passenger seat therefore no requirement to have one fitted for an MOT test
