Does passenger seat need to be fitted for MOT?

Has the OP notifies his/her insurers of this modification?;)0

Again, I have had my option, which I am entitled too.
I think you will find some MOT test stations will fail it.
OP of course I will not be 100% right every time however I have good grounds to believe what I am stating, without your seats in the back, it will fail.
As for the number of seats, it is recorded at VOSA and DVLA
Read your V5 logbook, it should state 'Number of seats'
I don't debate, I simply give my option, clearly some people like to think they know better than everyone else..... Laughable, quite laughable0 -
I just MOTed my track car.It failed on 2 brake pipes and a trackrod end(not bad for a 20 year old car thats been stood in my garage for 5 years). It has no rear seats and didn't fail on that.
Edited to add every single modification has been declared to the insurance company, including the removal of the rear seats.0 -
The MOT is only the testers opinion of the vehicle at that moment in time once its been written the ticket stands no mtter what.
I know for a fact there are 5 vehicles driving around here with an MOT pass that never saw a testing station.
VOSA are aware but can only act against the Tester as even though the tickets issued are false instruments they were issued correctly and therefore 'legal' and the CPS being the CPS wouldnt touch anything like that as its a bit too tricky for them to figure out right from wrong.0 -
Actually interested in this, as a car of mine went through a few years back with only the drivers seat bolted in.
MOT tester told me it wasn't a problem, as long as the seatbelts worked correctly, as he presumed the seats would be back in the car at some point... We were refitting sections of the car at the time.
Suppose it depends on who tests the car.0 -
I thought that was what the MOT manual was for....so that as far as is possible it DOESN'T depend on who tests the car0

I';ve got a Land Rover that at various times has had 2,3,5 & 7 seats in it. It's never failed an MOT on the number of seats. I've no idea what it says on the Log Book but it is insured as a 7 seater just in case I'm using the full complement.
Obviously the abov eisn;t proof as it's just anecdotal evidence of my experience. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
MOT's in NI are far, far stricter than on the mainland, yet I have had them pass/ fail with entirely stupid reasons.
Set electronic tests here- brakes, shocks, etc rely on set paramaters to pass. Other things- seatbelts, lights etc are discretionary in testing.
My coupe passed recently with the trainee tester switching the lights on and the experienced tester checking them. They got an instant pass! The fact that he tested the sidelights didn't seem to register with him!
I'd once had 4-5 guys doing my emission testing, and asking me to rev the car up- you don't need to do that for emission testing- in fact, my car is prior to the date, so doesn't require emission testing- they weren't aware of that. Turns out they liked my exhaust and wanted to know where I bought it!
Passed as mentioned above with only drivers seat, but all seatbelts were fitted and working correctly, even if there wasn't a seat for them.
I failed once for brakes being too new- passed 10 seconds later after I did a couple of emergency stops at the side of the testing centre.
I've passed with no lights, as the tester saw them blow as I turned in.
I've had guys pore over everything under my bonnet, and others give it a cursory glance.
There is a certain degree of discretion used in the job- and it's up to each tester to interpret it.0 -
