TESCO WILLOW FARM CHICKENS £2.50 each.

Without mentioning welfare issues I would rather spend the same amount of money on a smaller bit of nice chicken. One that is fit well and healthy and has grown slowly. It tastes sooooo much better. I actually had nice free range organic chicken today and only needed a little bit. One chicken will last about 2 meals for 4 and some soup.0

I got one of these yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it, thanks op!!0

I've always bought that chicken in Tesco because I rather stupidly thought that it was free range! Will have to be more careful about what I buy in future. Thanks to the poster who pointed that out - it is useful to know something like that before you decide to buy.
I wish it was easier to see which meat really is higher welfare. I always buy organic when it is available, but I don't think that the fact the meat is organic always means that the animal has been reared and slaughtered humanely.0 -
Tried to get one today and they'd sold out.
Butcher pointed me to the normal chickens as they were "cheaper than Willow Farm per kilo anyway"
I told him they didn't taste as nice as Willow Farm. He told me they were better value. I told him they didn't taste as nice, so not really better value if it's less enjoyable. He told me that they were cheaper (obviously thought I didn't understand the term better value...). I repeated that the taste wasn't as nice as Willow Farm. He then looks thoughtful and says "ah, that's because Willow Farm chicken are basted"...What?! They aren't basted, just have a fuller taste to the meat. He then proceeded to tell me what I needed to do to get the same taste to the chicken as the Willow Farm variety.
I walked away...Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

First time I read this thread I went and looked for £2.50 chickens on the meat counter at one store, they didn't even have fresh chickens on that counter. But I went to my local Tesco's and they do have fresh chickens on the butchers counter, they're not priced at £2.50, they show as half price per kilo, £1.50 down from £3. I picked another one up today, just over 2kg for £3.02. The offer runs to something like 4/8/10. Prok loin steaks are half price too, I think they were £4.50 per kg, no idea if that's a good price or not without checking around.
Spoke with the butcher at my local and all the chickens are half price at £2.50, offer ends next Tuesday/Wednesday.0 -
