To the jackbooted do-gooders, minnd your own damn business and do what you want, and let others do the same without pouring your self rightous judgement upon those with low incomes.
Ethics are a luxury some cannot afford, deal with it.
Hm, attack is the best form of defence, right?:D
So people on low incomes can't have principles or ethics? So you're happy to steal from your friends, family and anyone else, are you?
I agree that it's harder but it's not impossible, you just cut back in other ways. And I'm speaking from experience, by the way, before I get added to the list of apparent "jackbooted do-gooders".
Personally I get sick of the those who plead poverty as a reason to buy whatever they like without regard to how the animal may have suffered to get it.0 -

The bit I have underlined is an extraordinairily rude comment - even worse than is sometimes found on here when cheap meat is mentioned!ELITE 5:2

How is that rude?
You said that ethics are a luxury some people can't afford. Ergo, I am simply making a point that if that is right, you are effectively saying that anyone below a certain income threshold is happy to steal or commit any other immoral act. Personally, I find that offensive. 0 -

OK, so they are born to be killed - please explain where I said that everyone should be vegetarian. But if you want to open the debate, why must the process involve torture in between?
I seem to have touched a nerve and yet I notice that neither you nor tbw have answered the points I made....0 -

Its you that suggested anyone below a certain income level would be happy to steal not Me!!! And it wasn't me who mentioned ethics - I think you have got the posts muddled up.
But I do think your comment was very rude .ELITE 5:2

Apart from making me think you have been rude you haven't touched any of my nerves and I really can't think why I should be expected to answer whatever points you think you have made.
I don't buy cheap chickens, I buy either free range or certain brands which appear to be rather more kindly reared than battery hens ie bigger barns, more room etc. I don't agree with unnecessary suffering and I can't even kill a spider or any other creepy crawly - I quite like the Buddhist attitude towards living things.
But, we live in a society that eats meat and has reared animals for slaughter just about forever. Its not a particularly pleasant thing to think about but its a fact of life. It seems that people get really worked up of chicken farming - but hardly anything gets said about cows and pigs even though their rearing is becoming very intensive in many areas. I want the slaughtering process to be quick and as humane as possible but, at the end of the day, the animal is killed to suit our desire for meat.
There are brands which do seem to rear their chickens a little better and I was under the impression that Willow Farm was one of them. Its always going to be a compromise between producing enough for the market needs and how much space/what sort of life the chicken has. Free range just costs too much for many people and I fail to see why they should be forced to give up their Sunday Roast because a hard core say they must.ELITE 5:2

Seems to me that both supporters of the Free range chickens and those that eat non-free range chickens could both do with a lesson in manners.
I think you should all just try to be a little more poliet to each other and once you have got that perfected, then start to concentrate on being nicer to the chickens!0 -
As Bernard Matthews said.'They are warm and well fed, protected from predators,What more do they want'?0
