The R&R sounds a great service does this work in all tesco's and the express shops not just the big supermarkets ??
    Thanks In advance
    Jakk the money saving noob

All Tesco's big or small. They will all have the Refund and Retain policy statement stuck somewhere. In the little Express/Metro stores it is normally by the till on a pillar or something similar and it it a small blue sign with other Tesco statements on it.

Can I just quickly ask, you know how they often offer you a refund rather than R&R, has anyone ever said...
"OK, but only if you do them in clubcard points ie 1000 points per tenner!"

I was wondering this the other day when a misslabled phone with the wrong phones sticker I got offered £20 discount, not bad really saying it was 50/50 at best for an R&R (wrong SEL for the model). I declined and had me cash back, but I wonder if I should have asked for 2000 points instead. Anyone tried it?
2000 points is worth £80 to me which I wouldn't have grumbled at.

Also would any tesco staff like to comment on if it would be OK for them if this was asked?

No, I can't see me doing that I'm afraid.

Hi there, so what happens when the store is test shopped and the test shopper could not get an R+R? Or do Tesco's not take part in these schemes.

Tescos do take part in mystery shopping schemes and I'm going to do one soon (will be vague as you aren't allowed to disclose details  )! I will taking a lot of note of the prices anyway and can't spend much (as per brief) so will be fun to see if an R&R comes up (they haven't before, but I may just refamiliarise myself with the latest misprices this time before I go  ). If so I will be straight over to CS and all details will go back on the report too!

I guess it depends whether they care about whether R&Rs are given without complaint or not - the number of managers saying they have discretion to overrule suggests not to me.

Will update (vaguely!) if anything interesting happens! ;)
  • R and R process does not form a specific part of the Mystery Shopper process. Stores are done once a month.

  • Well,
I had a nice call from head office today telling me it was OK to go and get my refund for.............................................................................................................The XBOX!!!!!!!!
A little pressure from Trading Standards and not giving up seemed to have done the trick.
I went there with every intention of getting the snotty manager to personally hand over the cash but he wasn't there? Yeah right! Funny how the rest of the staff thought he was there.
Thankyou to Starb for helping me out with this one, and thanks to Trading Standards for acting so promptly and getting me a result.
Thanks also to the nice man at Head Office that said I was right all along and despite being told different by the legal dept kept pushing it for me.

Well done smartsuit. I've had a day of being fobbed off endlessly by CS in Dundee about my Xbox overcharge on Saturday night. They told me the key decision maker on the matter is on holiday! Obviously a complete pile of utter **** as they've authorised your refund. Nothing surprises me about Tesco any more.

However, we called the store directly tonight and they said the manager authorised me to have the £320 refund on to a giftcard!!! That's a new one on me. No doubt this is the manager's way of cooking the books to disguise the fact that the store lost £320 through its own incompetence.

Going in the morning to discuss it with the manager in person, where I'll be reading out Tesco's policy verbatim... "we will refund your money and you can keep the product"... where does it mention putting your refund on a giftcard??!!

    The swines!

The managers are all taking different stances on this whole r&r thing. We've got some saying they are overriding the Company policy and refusing r&r because of the value and HO are stating they can't overrule the store managers. Now, Taxiphil is being offered a giftcard. What next?

I think that we are all going to come up against some very awkward managers in the not to distant future, especially as the number of r&rers are growing considerably and they are obviously getting a little p***ed off at this. This tactic will obviously dissuade the newbies r&rers from continuing which is exactly what they are trying to do. You're then faced with the dilemma - Do you make a stand by complaining to HO, which many of us have done, or do you walk away and let the manager think they've won, and keep a low profile with HO.

The manager of one of my local stores has had to give me a refund on a psp because of the misprice, but they are still refusing other people on here at that store on the basis that it is "the game only". For every 10 people overcharged on high value goods, how many walk away with the difference, or a free game. Must be a substantial figure.

I for one will try and avoid the higher value r&rs from now on, and maintain a low profile so I can continue this for as long as the policy exists. I will also try and familiarise myself with the various legalities over how goods are priced (or not as the case may be), so at least when I do come across my next obstinant member of Tesco staff hopefully I can persuade them I do know what I'm talking about and they'll back down with the minimum of fuss.

    Happy hunting everyone.

Tesco B/leys, Leicester just got an Xbox 360 core SEL £199.95 charged £209.95 and a Nintendo DS pink (with dog) £99.95 sel (-£20 if bought with game of the week) Super Mario charged £124.92 total RnR £334.87.......

    Tesco's RnR policy i love you :)

Lol !!! I mean, do you lot got back to the same store day after day ?!!? Do you get to know the staff, or should I say do they get to know you ? Lol. I guess you just have to be confident and stick up for your apparent R&R rights ! This is just so rediculous and laughable ! I love it !!! :D
