I smell a rather unsubtle attempt to get the thread closed. PLEASE don't respond, people. It's genuinely not worth it.
Sorry, my apologies, I couldn't resist it.

  • Just spotted in my local that the Maltesers Selection boxes now have a YELLOW SEL. Looks like they have now linked them in to the multisave offer. Didn't test it as I already have some, but it's likely that if you haven't got them by now, it's too late! :(
  • For anyone interested, I got my XBox R&R on Monday (been busy so apologies for not updating).

A really nice lady at HO immediately told me I was due a refund regardless of the fact that the manager thought the poster was out of date (the Test Drive Unlimited GOTW one).

She even offered to post me a cheque, but I didn't want to chance the receipt in the post.

Absolutely no problem and she was a credit to Tesco in the way she handled it.

If I was Tesco I would be thinking about a retraining programme for stores to address two things. One on how to keep prices/posters SELs updated and the second on how to implement their own policy.

There is clearly a training need here and the managers on the ground are causing a lot of work for the HO staff and creating a lot of bad feeling toward the company.

That said, well done to the HO staff for sorting all of these out.

Whilst I accept that we R&R'ers are VERY much in the minority cpmpared to most Tesco shoppers, surely this policy is now causing a bit of a stir internally? You only have to look at the potential 640k figure mentioned with regard to losses on the Xbox fiasco, plus there have been many more console R&R's since then. I know Tesco are a huge business with massive turnover and £2billion/yr profits blah blah blah, but IIRC their NET profits as a percentage of t/o are somewhere in the region of 6%, which is not exactly huge, is it? Surely the sort of R&Rs they've been doing of late must have had some effect on the percentage profitability? Even a miniscule reduction would cause a decrease in profitability that couldn't exactly be sniffed at? The only conclusion I can draw from this is that they MUST have had some of agreement drawn up with TS as to how they were to solve the problem of misprices, after TS had lost of complaints from the public? It's the only reason I can think of why they continue with the policy. Anyone?
I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!
  • Yes, Tesco monitor this site and I'd like to say "Hello" to the nice CS lady from Burnley that asked me for this website address this morning! (for "Training Purposes" !!!)

Apparently the people that exploit Tesco's R&R policy ("professional shoppers") are only doing it to support the dole, apparently we don't need to work we can just sell the stuff that we get for free in the town and as it's not income, then we don't have to declare it either --> What nonsense, I've only just started to exploit the r&r policy and the reason that I was in the store so early this morning is because afterwards, it's off to work for me and when I finish work, I'm off to do a couple of hours on another job. (I've 4 altogether, one employed and three self employed all declared, tax paid, legal and above board). When the girl at CS was making out that we're all lowlife this morning, I resisted the urge to tell her that actually I probably earned double what you did last year luvvy.

So please don't tar everybody with the same brush and after all it it can only happen because Tesco have created the situation in the first place and that is certainly not my fault!

Also in reply to the earlier posting about giving CS staff grief, I am always extremely polite to CS staff at all times and it is perfectly possible to be polite and firm when arguing your case. What I don't understand though is why they would resist, after all it's not their own money that they are refunding is it?

Maybe next time I go to this store, I'll be wearing my "Mystery shopper" hat. Those visits always include a question at CS, if I heard staff referring to refund customers in this way on a mystery shop visit it would certainly be included in the report.
  • I am quite glad Tesco managers in particular read this site, it give me chance to give them something to think about en masse.

Something hit me this morning before setting out, you know how some manager decides to refuse the R&R. Even though the policy is a Tesco policy and not his/hers. Well they are doing this because they are accepting responsibility to enforce or not enforce the offer themselves.

I am sure Tesco head office are very very happy with them doing this because it lifts all the responsiblity off them. However, not meaning to insult the inteligence of someone who makes it to a management possition in retail, have any of them got the brains to realise what they are doing when they decide to refuse an R&R?

What idiot would leave themselves open to trading standards and massive fines when all they need to do is nod and agree? Don't they realise that they are risking probably more than there house is worth if they break the law?

    Think about it.

Is 99 nights the game of the week on the 360? I.e. will the £20 discount come off on it atm?

If only Tesco spent as much effort on spying on what their staff were doing with SELs there would be no need for this thread :D Rather like MI6 in the 1950s they should be looking inward not outwards!
Don't they realise that they are risking probably more than there house is worth if they break the law?

When was the last time TS took a Tesco manager to court in their personal capacity and had them fined, rather than Tesco? I would think the biggest risk to a Tesco manager is being sacked by the company for allowing too many R&Rs because they aren't aware of how incompetent their staff are.

Has anybody ever heard about any customer being asked to leave the store / being thrown out / being barred etc because of persistant arguing with management over their r&r policy?? I don't know of any case like this but the security staff at Blackburn used to be "a law unto themselves" sometimes, so I wouldn't want to test their patience??

I think there have been incidents where customers have been banned due to r&r, don't know of any personally only what I have read on here.
