Its 229 hours and 20 mins for me. 9 1/2 days if you are not too good with figures.

Must have woken up 6 or 7 times last night. The worst night since I have stopped this time. Knew it would happen but its still a pain. Its Saturday why am I out of bed at 08.30. Must be mad.

Have to go in a Pub tonight. Taking OH out meeting some friends. That will be hard!!!! One of the couples both smoke. If I come back here tomorrow with my head bowed in shame then you will know I failed.

I have started to put away the money from the ciggys up to £25 opening a BS account this morning. 20 a day, but I have not purchased a pack in this country for over 3 years. Used to buy them in Belgium. Last ones I bought from Gibralter only cost £7.95 for 200 in June got 1600

Keep up the good work everyone.

Good luck tonight! When/if you see your friends smoking, just keep reminding yourself about why you have stopped. Diverting the ciggie money into savings is a great idea. £7.95 for 200???!!! Avoid Gibraltar!

Just been re-reading this thread from the start - well done to all stopped smokers!

For those struggling remember that by now all the nicotine is completely gone from your body - any urges/cravings you have are purely psychological. Everytime you have an urge think about why? Stressful time at work? Maybe you just need the five minutes away from your desk and not the cigarette.

Well done and keep it up! :T

    Well done all of you!

I have just had the most sobering thought. It's not like I don't know that I can't afford to smoke but I always seem to be able to find the money to buy a packet. I know it's bad for my health and bad for my bank balance but I just keep doing it anyway and it's always "tomorrow I am going to stop!"

However, I mean it this time. I am going to stop tomorrow and here is why.

I am in £14000 of debt. My arrangement with Payplan is I pay £250 a month so it's going to take me nearly 6 years to pay it off and start living normally.

When I really think about it I probably smoke 30 a day  so that's two packets a day really when you factor in the chocolate bar and the newspaper and oh, I'll just pick up one of these too.. which is £8.80 a day or thereabouts.

Which is £3212 a year  Or £267 a month which IS MORE THAN I AM PAYING TO MY DEBTS. How am I finding £267?? So if I paid that to my debts instead of setting fire to it I would be debt free in two years. Two years is so much closer than six!

The sad fact is, when you really get down to it, I have nothing to show for all that debt, I have nothing fancy or shiny. So how am I in debt? I'll tell you how I'm in debt. It's the fact I have smoked for the past 10 years and in the process cost myself..

    £32120!

How is that possible? Really, how stupid am I? OK, I knew I was stupid but I have never really sat and worked it out properly, I think I need to lie down..

Dont stress yourself out thinking how much money you will save by not smoking, I did that and was smoking again in no time.
Choose a time that is right for you,
Yes, giving up will save you money,
just dont try to give up because you feel you need to, because you really need to want to give up!

October 31st will be 1 year for me.

  • Well, there's nothing like a cross 9 year old, I've just been caught by my son at the back door. Livid at me, and rightfully so, considering he thought I hadn't had one since April.

Oh dear I've let him down.

I've done those sums and like you think it's ridiculous I've wasted so much, however as nicotine addicts it still goes over our heads when you worry if you've got enough to see you through a bank holiday Monday when everything is closed or such like. That's the fear factor working.

Think of the money as a bonus, getting paid not to smoke lol !
I am aiming to drop it this week.

Kimbo and Merlin good luck, I don't think you'll need it though.
