Thanks everyone for the welcomes, shall look forward to joining on Monday and hopefully start saving money.
  • Welcome Babes and good luck. I'm in the 'tried and failed, preparing to stop again' category. There's loads of great support on here, I'm still reading all the posts so that I keep the idea of stopping firmly in my head.

ARRRRGGGHHHHH  Why do non smokers insist that they know better? I have just had a conversation with a non smoker stating 'why does anyone start anyway in this day an age?' !!!! I mean for crying out loud, why does anyone do anything that isn't good for us these days? Why do I eat more than I should? Why do I go out and drink? Why do I drink at all? Why do I drive fast?

    Why bloody not?!!

If there are any non smokers out there please be sensitive to smokers trying or have succeeded in stopping.

    Thanks

    H,
They don't. It's just really hard for non-smokers to figure out why people start smoking. To quote Mr Carr (yet again):

Suppose I came to you and said I had this pill that you should take. it will make you feel a bit uneasy but if you have another one, you will feel a little better - for a while. From then on, the only way to make that feeling go away will be to take another pill. It won't do anything for you AT ALL. In fact, keep taking these pills for long enough and it will kill you, one way or another. These pills will be really expensive to buy, and, even better, we're going to tell you on the packet that they will kill you.

Would you take one of these pills?

Of course you wouldn't. That's what people who have never smoked think about smokers.

Don't be too hard on them - even though they may appear smug and condescending.

EDIT : YAYYY! That was my 300th post

  • Hello everyone,

I'm feeling utterly awful. Got drunk last night and smoked. Not only that, but because I didn't want to be a scrounger I bought 16 for £6 out of a machine!!!
Feel really low and disappointed in myself, worse than that I feel cravings coming back as I've effectively gone back to square one and made a mockery of my silkquit timer and everything.
As I started the thread I just feel like I have let everyone down, why am I so weak? I dread to think what I spent, I went to the cashpoint so thats ruined my budget aswell.
So sick of all of it, having no money, battling smoking and being my own worst enemy. It wasn't even a particularly great night.

Sorry folks, glad everyone is hanging in there, I'll get my act together once I've had my mope x

    Been there done that!!

Pick yourself back up, learn from your mistake. :A

    Never stop stopping.

I am at the 4.5 week stage this time and today I was walking around town and somebody dropped a half smoked ciggy in front of me and did not step on it. For a few seconds I looked at it and thought I could smoke that.

I didn't but could have done.

  • I wish you all the best youngandreckless.

I've just quit for the second time. First time was 6 years ago and never looked back until earlier this year when stress caught up with me and I hit the fags again.

I always go cold turkey because that's what works for me but I don't deny myself a cigarette if I want one and somebody offers. I'm such a contrary beast that if I or anybody else tries to tell me I can't have one I'll go out and buy a whole packet and smoke them! I have to use reverse psychology on myself :D

You have to be gentle with yourself and don't beat yourself up when you have a set back. It's OK, nobody's perfect all the time, not even non-smokers despite what some of them would have us believe...!!!

    :T YOU CAN DO IT!!!:T
