Keeping an untaxed car on drive.

I have just bought a Car and Insured it yesterday. My Insurance details are on the data base which I have checked but the Policy has not yet been mailed to me. I have been told they will take up to 5 working days getting to me. What I want to know is although I know that I cannot drive the Car yet and have to keep it off the road but can I keep the car parked in my car parking bay in the residents Carpark? At the moment the car is stuck in the dealers site.

You need to find out whether the land is owned or maintained by the council.... If it is, then you need valid VED (tax).

My neighbour tried to claim her car was parked on residential parking, but as is simply a widened road rather than a carpark, she got into trouble when the DVLA van did it's rounds.
They asked for £250 to stop them reporting her to the Police for having no tax.

Why not tax it online ? They will allow it
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

How would you intend to get it from the dealers to your residents carparking space without driving it?

If parking bay is a private land, then yes you can keep the car untaxed there.

    Otherwise not.

Whether the car park is private or not will be mentioned in your property's deed. If you are not the owner, check with landlord.

In my house, I park my car in a residential parking bay but I actually own the land (i.e. my parking bay) according to land registry record. However, there are some parking bays which are public! So, it is very difficult to say without looking at proper document.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Spaceship? Ask them to drop it off on trade plates? Is it really that important to you?

That can be done on trade plates or by trailering the vehicle.

I thought that you could drive before receiving the documents. I've insured online before and have been covered straight away.

The car being discussed is insured, but has no tax! (see thread title)
