the same as i had to do?
or do you feel your situation entitles you to get your mail redirected for free?
if its such an issue then do as i had to do and cut those apron strings
you dont have to go home
you choose to do so as its the cushy option0 -
so returning to sender should be free, but forwarding on should cost? that's where it gets tricky to argue the cost issue.....
i get things forwarded and have never been charged, but it's not exactly a huge heap of mail, just that i've moved a few times and people send letters to my parents' place as that has been constant for the last few years!
i guess i've never been charged and assumed it was free - granted i've always thought it lucky. given that it's happened like that for years, i'd just want an announcement if it was going to change, even if do understand the reasons why it is a cost they won't want to bear........ although i got a forwarded letter on Friday so near me, it's still ok!:happyhear0 -

not really.RTS items are not all handled the same way
many items are destroyed
however the main v problem is many of RM's systems and responsibilities hark back to before the market was opened up
heres an interesting one for you
a postie is short of time so leaves their 'condemn mail' for the next day.as long as its marked as such then they are fine(though technically shouldnt)
if they left an item of mail thats unofficially redirected then they could be sackedmelancholly wrote: »i get things forwarded and have never been charged, but it's not exactly a huge heap of mail, just that i've moved a few times and people send letters to my parents' place as that has been constant for the last few years!

"its not a huge heap of mail" but scale it across the country and see how it adds up
Ive said it before but people will soon see what happens when RM is broken up
this thread just shows how many feel they are entitled to free services
at this point RM are concentrating on cutting staff levels but guess what goes with cuts in staff?0 -
i completely understand the disaster that is allowing competition for RM's work..... and that the prospects are pretty bleak (although that goes for most of the public sector at the moment!!). i think that as mail has always been forwarded for free, people will get narky it they suddenly have to pay - however much that makes sense for RM financially, a sudden shift without any clear policy change is poor public relations management! if they don't get their PR right soon, they will lose the battle of public opinion and then the politicians will really mess them around - which is a bad outcome for everyone! people don't value the RM as much as they should but getting aggressive about things doesn't always help..... iyswim?:happyhear0

Actually, if we were being charged for it, I would open my sons' mail (with their permission), scan it and email it to them if necessary. Usually it's very boring ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

So what exactly do you think public opinion has to do with the privitisation of RM?
the government are already bringing people in on how to break up the network
mail centres are closing
PO's are closing
DO's are closing
quality of service is dropping
the delivery systems/duties RM are bringing in are not focused on improving service
so at what point do you feel this public relations stuff will kick in?0 -

What 'situation' might that be custardy?
Why would going home to my parents be a 'cushy' option? As bizarre as you might find this I actually enjoy going to visit my parents so why on earth would I want to 'cut the apron strings' as you put it???0
