I took something back yesterday without any receipt and was given a giftcard.0

They recently introduced a 100 day quality guarantee on clothing with a no quibble refund so I guess it makes sense they would want to see a receipt as proof of the date of purchase.
They could be skating on thin ice though, if goods are faulty then you don't need a receipt as far as I know plus you have longer than 100 days to return them.
I just spotted this today http://www.which.co.uk/news/2010/07/asda-clothing-ad-banned-for-misleading-consumers-2208550 -
I took something back today with no receipt and was given a gift card, no quibble.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

Did you pay by debit or credit card? I've used my bank statement to as proof of purchase before but not at Asda.0

You would think someone (OP) that had been using MSE forums for 4 years would know this isn't a grabbit. My daughters are my world0

Under SOGA proof of purchase is enough - it does not have to be the receipt and that is well documented.
Under anything that ASDA choose to provide in addition to SOGA, such as the option to return if you've simply change your mind, ASDA are free to dictate any conditions they choose - including that you must provide a receipt - as they wish.#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET

You'd think that someone who'd been using the forums for 16 months now would know that if you can't post anything helpful, it's best not to post at all.
