Exceptionally high data usage

Giffgaff is a virtual network. SIM only - so you can use it on the iPhone if you want.
You can buy an android handset if you want (on T-Mobile or SIM free and put on Giffgaff) but if you are happy with your iPhone why not keep it? Android does support shoutcast stations and Spotify.
See https://www.giffgaff.com - Starts at £10/mo sim only, for 100 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet. No fair use as such, except for no tethering or commercial use.0 -

Morning
I have an Iphone 3G and last April I signed up to an 18 month unlimited data contract.
In terms of data usage - I stream radio on my Iphone for the 90 minute cycle to and from work every day. This seems to have annoyed O2. This afternoon I received this text from them:
"Your data usage is exceptionally high and is affecting the service for other customers. This is against our excessive use policy. To compy with our policy you need to dramatically and immediately reduce your usage. If you do not immediately moderate your usage we will have to stop you from using data on your mobile."
Maybe I'm thin skinned but this seemed quite aggressive to me. In fact I'm actually scared now to listen to the radio when I cycle home tonight.
My question is - I signed a contract for 18 months of unlimited data (up to October 20th 2010). Can they really stop me from using data for listening to the radio?
Have you checked how much you have actually used? My mate had a similar text, when we looked, he had used over 11gb :eek:0 -

Koloko - no, no no!!
The data is subject to 100MB a day until October, then the limits you placed above for standard tariff customers. Customers with a goodie bag will continue to get unlimited data past this date, with no usage limit other than the 'not for commercial use or for tethering.
So assuming you don't need many minutes, the cost would be in total £10 a month.0 -
Just to let you know: you can get a plug in FM radio for your iPhone. I've linked an example below. It has rubbish reviews, but I'm sure there are 3rd party ones too, which might be better:
amazon.co.uk/Apple-MA070G-C-Radio-Remote/dp/B000MTEER4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1279648889&sr=8-1
Obviously wouldn't help with the New York radio but you could use a radio in the mornings and stream in the evenings perhaps?0 -
It angers me so much that they sell these tarifs as unlimited.
200MB is far from unlimited. Grrr0 -
Thankfully there seems to be a move towards specified limits. 3 especially now state everything in fixed numbers of minutes, texts and data.0
