  • Now is not a good time to get into shares as we are on the edge of a recession. Shares should only be bought with disposable cash, not borrowed money.
  • This is either a very cunning or a very stupid idea!

I will wish you luck cash machine and will watch your progress with awe (either way).

I really hope it works for you. You seem to be aware of the risks and how the use of leverage can increase returns as well as losses.

I will say, however, that what you are doing is called speculating, not investing. It's, in effect, gambling and is why the stock market gets a bad name.

    Hello,
I'm not speculating. I'm a long term holder in the 2 companies & am 99% certain of what is going to happen when the results come out, I just want to increase my holding to take maximum advantage.
  • Anyhoo.

MBNA declined to increase my credit limit the barstewards, so that mean't a quick replan.

It's now going to be a smaller amount, I'll tell you more once the funds have appeared in my bank account - just to make sure I get the numbers right this time :D
  • how are you getting the funds from MBNA to your bank account? Do they do SBT's?

I'm sorry but I disagree. Surely what you are doing is speculation? You're "betting" that the companies will do well in the short term, based on whatever knowledge you have. It is short term because you have borrowed the money, so will have to pay it back!

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I'm just saying that I think you are speculating, and should be aware of this so that you can gear yourself up to the risks involved.

Risk is only bad when you aren't prepared! High Risk can mean High Profits

    Best Definitions I have found

Speculation: Purchase of an asset with the expectation of selling it quickly for a large gain.

Investment: Anything of value purchased to provide capital appreciation and/or income. Examples include stocks, bonds, mutual funds, unit investment trusts, certificates of deposit, money market funds and collectibles. Investments may also include artwork, antiques and real estate.

    Hello,
like I said I've been in each of these for over a year, & intend on continuing to hold my existing shares. The leverage will be used in the short term in RCG, then will go into CCT. I expect CCT to hit over £1 by May 07 (after the interims), so will probably leave the borrowed money in them until then.

I am expecting a short term gain, but I'm expecting it because of the research I've done due to being a long term holder.

In any case, why do you think speculators give the market a bad name? 90% of the market is day traders & other speculators.

If you are an experienced investor with good knowledge of the companies involved this could be a winner. But why oh why is it on the debt free board and not the credit card or maybe the investing boards.

For those of you in debt please don't start thinking about running your cards back up and investing the money as a quick fix. 'The_Tax_Mans_Cash_Machine' sounds like he knows what he is doing but anyone who doesn't will come a cropper.

I heartily second that. It's a bad idea full stop, even though I "think" I know what I'm doing. The downside is losing all of the money if I'm wrong.

    Definitely not a quick fix.
