Why accept it???
Just bend over and let BT shaft you.
BT would give cups and long string if enough saps would let them.
Dispute it and take them to OTELO!When_is_the_reset? wrote: »Isn't this a money saving forum? Why are people using BT when you get cheaper calls and internet access elsewhere?
I have just been caught out by the borderline-illegal automatically renewing contract for E&W thing - it will cost me £85 to get out of it and we never received any letter at all.
Funny thing is that it just happened to renew on the day I called - by pure chance!
Doing the sums it is still cheaper to pay the £85 and leave. I am sure people will wake up to these shady practises one day. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
i think it is getting worse with B T. as i have just moved to a talk talk package and bt wants £62 just to disconnect me,this is a joke no wonder people are going to cheaper phone companys as they are making a fortune from us that are with bt for years and now that we look for cheaps calls and broadband they still charge you the earth to leave.but well done to martin and the rest of the crew for letting us know of ways to get things cheaper many thanks martin cheers.0

If BT want to give there staff almost 10% wage rise to there employers over 3 years then so be it but why make customer pay 10% more and then ramp up line rental too. Many of us loosing our jobs or facing wage cuts, are 0% rises, BT should pay for this out of there own money
If it wasnt for fact I need broadband I tell BT where to stick there phone as I dont really use phone that much anyway and certainly not mobiles, I only need broadband0 -
i have just moved to a talk talk package and bt wants £62 just to disconnect meTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

BT has the worst customer service I have ever had the misfortune to experience and I would advise everyone to move as soon as they can. It beggars belief that in a recession they are going to hike their charges to make even more profit! I could understand it if they were losing money, but they made profit of just over £1 billion pounds last year (http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/may/13/bt-fast-broadband-spending).
If you need broadband, try o2 - they provide both broadband and a land-line for around £20.00 per month, but more importantly they have English based call centres and are brilliant at customer service.0 -
BT just keep on getting it right! They are an inspiration to public relations!
When you are losing customers, losing your reputation and seeing your profits shrink do you alter your behaviour and compete, or demand a ransom from your remaining hostages?
In effect BT have *restored* the equivalent of 'that' 50p a month telephone tax. How very opportunistic of them to take action when the government decided to retreat because it was so unpopular!
Today we have placed orders to shift our remaining five BT lines and we intend to drop our megastream too. Good ole BT - how *not* to run a business and retain loyal customers - NOT.
My advice (if you are stuck with BT) get rid of *any* of their paid for services (call waiting, caller display, call minder) - have them disable 1571 answer (so they don't gain revenue from callers when it answers on your behalf) and seriously consider ringing them every day on 0800 800 800 to complain about something in BT. Keep them busy. Overpaid and underworked shysters.0 -
Posted this on the other thread before I saw this 'official' thread
:
I recently received notification from BT that my rolling contract was due to renew in August. I had decided to stay put as I am happy with the Unlimited plan at £4.99/month, it suits my needs.
Having seen this thread today I decided to call and come out of the rolling contract and swallow the rise until I could find something better.
I was offered line rental at £10.04/month (after paperless discount) and get to continue my unlimited at £4.99/month but must stay on rolling contract. Fine by me.
Might not be for everyone though.0 -
over the years I have used ( on my 2/3 lines)
Talktalk
Tiscali
Post office for line rental:
as well above I have calls carried by Somerfield!! & Sky..
I've regretted each.. and gone back to BT ( yes they make mistakes, but unlike the others seem easier to solve) will likely pay up front and saveAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -

Wait to Oct and the cancellation fees reduce.
