    just got an email saying:
Dear Marks and Spencer Customer, Thank you for your recent order. We're sorry to let you know of delays to the following:

All 15 items are then listed with the following comment:
    Your new delivery estimate is August 05 2010 - August 08 2010

Most of the items I've ordered are for my son for our holiday - leaving on 15th August! I'll be furious if they don't arrive by that date and I have to run around buying full price items just before we go! I guess that there is 1 item there is one or 2 items they are waiting on so can they not at least send the rest of the items?!

I've had the same email, they were due to be delivered today. They've cancelled one and said the rest delayed. I've emailed them to ask if it will actually come then or are they going to delay/cancel it later....will let you know what they say :)

Not looking good though for getting them at all I'd say...if I were you I wouldn't guarantee getting what you want for your holiday....

it's not agreed among those of us who received our items with later delivery dates after they had gone out of stock!

The big problem with the website is that it's not real-time updated...

Also, there is a big misunderstanding about web ordering, many people think that if they put something in their basket, then it's theirs even if they don't pay for it until 5 or 10 minutes later...and during the Sale (when the site receives tens of thousands of hits every second), it's a mistake to wait even 1 minute....

Does this mean I can put something in my basket now, and expect it to stay there for several months?

The way I operate is to find everything I want a few days in advance in my basket, and when the prices change, put the order in for the items that have been reduced.

This avoids me having to search for things once the sale has begun...

Terrible system. Soon, when everyone shops like this M&S will have half their stock tied up in people's baskets for days.

Or maybe people will checkout each item separately - then M&S will have hundreds of single item orders to process!

They really need to get into the 21st century - ie cut their dated adverts and spend the money on a workable online site.

When I have ordered and had problems, I have found that a delayed despatch date is almost always code for 'you won't be getting these' even when CS have assured me by phone that there was no problem with the order. You can't assume that delayed items will ever appear, I'm afraid.

Yes I agree order delayed is the code. Next message you get will say ordered cancelled. I hope its not the case for you but Ive been there and got the T Shirt.
  • Don't give up hope on delayed items - it's happened to me a couple of times & both arrived eventually.

I ordered the £10 'deal of the day' jeans (various sizes & colours!) a couple of days before the sale. All but one pair were cancelled as unavailable; a different e-mail delayed the delivery to store of the last pair till yesterday. And yesterday they arrived, I collected them, they fit and they are a lovely bargain.

Just checked my account for the bargain £1 XL towels and the status is 'despatching soon' is there a glimmer of hope that i will be getting these then? Any one had this status and received? x

They've had the cheek to take my payment..Their T&Cs say:
All card payments are subject to authorisation by your card issuer and we take payment when we accept your order shortly before dispatch.

Therefore, they have ACCEPTED my order...

    However, T&Cs also say:
Our acceptance of your order will take place only when we dispatch the product(s) or commencement of the services that you ordered from us.

So, a bit of contradiction in their T&Cs there!!!

Just gave them a call and I was guaranteed that it would arrive by 8th August. I explained that I had been told that when I rang up on 29th and was guaranteed that they'd be with me on 30th July...

I asked if the order could be split so those items that may have been available could be sent now. I was told it couldn't.

I told them that they'd taken the payment. They told me that it hadn't been taken. I told them that i'd been in touch with my bank this morning and they had told me that my most recent payment was to M&S ecommerce....

I asked if the items were all delayed (knowing that was highly unlikely!!) and if she could guarantee that the items that were available were sitting waiting for those that were available. She said that they would be...er, yeah, like she REALLY knows that!

Their website is a joke and their customer services reps have no ability to answer any questions other than what I can see myself on their site.

No doubt, they'll send an email in a few days cancelling the order and refunding my card....

Yes, this means you will be getting the items. It seems quite rare to get a cancellation when the status has changed to 'despatching soon'. Not unheard of, but rare.

I think perhaps you need to email: marc.bolland@marksandspencer.com

    Maybe we all do?
