  • I think I must be a lucky one - placed one order to be delivered (standard delivery) and 3 orders to be delivered to store - all tomorrow (ordered 10pish on the wednesday night). All items are saying being despatched, not one thing cancelled (although until actually in my hands anything can still happen I suppose!). I didnt order any clothes (apart from school stuff) and ordered kitchen items and toys/books. Just wanted to give a bit of hope to those not received their despatch yet, as you may still get some stuff. Not gloating as have been stung by m&s sales before, just wanted to spread a bit of luck around..... :)

Haven't you read the number of comments from people here who have had email 'confirmations' (OK - I know there's no legal contract at that point) and fully expected their goods to arrive as arranged? Only to find that 'their' items have gone to someone else who decided on an earlier delivery?

That's NOT what happens at all, it's a myth

The entire system works on who ordered first, (down to the millisecond), regardless of delivery date. It's all based on stock levels...only if you can't pay, or you made the mistake of using 1-Click (which means wait 90 minutes BTW!) will someone else who ordered using standard checkout be moved up in front of you...

It's also a myth that store delivery orders are reserved last, I know this because items I ordered items for store delivery on the 26th, and they were showing OOS on Thursday AM at 1AM (I ordered at 12:15 AM)...but they're now waiting in the store for collection!

sorry, I don't work for them, but a little realism needs to be injected!

BTW, I have been burned before, and it sucks, but again, it's down to stock not being available.

I must admit that although they messed up one of my orders, another 5 (I know, I know, I do tend to go a bit mad in the M+S sales lol) have successfully despatched, including the Lego my husband was keeping his fingers crossed for :) M&S is always like that for me though, I win some and lose some, but overall the wins outweigh the losses. A free DVD player glitch, a £75 toy reduced to under £10 last year, a £40 'apology' gift card for an OOS order that in fact turned up a week later, and others spring to mind...... :D

pwl2706, if you don't work for M&S then how can you possibly know how their stock system works. I believe that items become yours when they are picked and it seems clear to me that they would pick an order for early delivery before an order for store delivery a week later.

not if you got your order in first.

If Customer A orders before Customer B, and Customer A has delivery date later, and there is only one left, they won't screw the first customer in order to keep the second customer happy?

I believe this because I've experienced situations before where my items were delivered several days later, even tho they went OOS shortly after my order was accepted...

In fact this is the case with these items that went OOS on Thursday AM around 1AM, but delivered to the store for me yesterday....
Also, even though they put a hold on an item when you order it (subject to availability of course), it's not yours until M&S accept your order officially with a dispatch email (after successful payment)

Sorry, but given that you don't work for them, I don't think you're in any position to say what's a myth and what isn't.

Such evidence as there is suggests very strongly that it's no myth at all! Just read some of the posts.

Their website is a joke, as many here will testify.

I DID choose the earliest nominated delivery date (which was today), for the order I placed online as soon as the prices changed. They emailed me this afternoon to inform me that 10 of the original 15 items are out of stock and won't be coming, and the remaining items should be here at the start of August.

When I phoned to complain, they did me a huuuuuge favour (you would think, to hear them) by not charging me for nominated delivery. So now I'm just paying for the standard £3.50 delivery. :rotfl:

They could at least refund ALL of the postage, jeez!! Both of my parcels came late, one on Saturday and one today, so they refunded both charges of £4.95.

So I received all of the items I ordered, and I didn't even have to pay for delivery :D

standard delivery = up to 5 working days....Early August is more than 5 working days...

Not sure if there is something in their T&Cs that get them off the hook...I guess there will be!

I think people are assuming that because they didn't receive their ordwer, and had chosen a later delivery date, then the item was stolen from them and give to someone else....

whereas what is actually happening is that M&S don't know for sure that an item is available until it's picked.

Further, I suggest orders go into the 'picking queue' when the order confirmation email is sent out, the items are picked, and stored in a deliivery area to await payment processing just prior to dispatch approval, after which the item is packed, addressed and loaded onto a truck to be left in a bin outside your house on bin emptying day while you're at work!....

Now, when someone loses their order, it's not because their item was picked for an earlier delivery, but more likely because there was not enough stock to fulfill their order.

of course, all this is confused further when we order items that must be fulfilled from several warehouses, thus causing delays, and human error...

Well I know what I ordered on the night the sale started and I know that people have received orders they placed AFTER me containing the SAME items... yet my order hasn't even been packed or despached. I'm afraid I don't believe it's first come first served with M&s unfortunately.

Having said that, I did order 3 drinking glasses seperately to be delivered to my local store and M&S are saying they have been despached. Does anybody know if the glasses will just be loose or whether they will be packed in a box ready for me to collect?
