It's common knowledge on this board that M&S always cancel orders because things go out of stock.

It's common knowledge for anyone who is a regular on MSE and has experienced a previous M&S sale.

You said that you don't understand why people are complaining...It's not common knowledge to everyone so they have a right to complain...

I was really excited to receive an email yesterday to say my order had been dispatched with all the items I had ordered. I went to track it today through the HDNL site, and apparently it is on it's way to Ireland! Not much good as I live in Scotland.......:(

I don't understand why all the people complaining didn't choose next day delivery. Even if you're not at home to take the parcel, at least the parcel would have been packed up and dispatched to you and delivered at another time.

It shouldn't be necessary to choose next day delivery to be sure of getting something you've already bought.

And you shouldn't need an intricate knowledge of the shoddy and incompetent way that M&S deal with their online customers when you make an order, either.

The fact that this is the way they've always behaved (despite a large number of complaints) doesn't make it right. They haven't a clue how to run an online operation, despite having to import Amazon software to sort out the even worse mess of things they originally made. You have to assume either that they're using an old version of the Amazon software that Amazon ditched long ago, or that they just haven't the competence to use it properly.

I would have ordered next day delivery but the option wasn't available on the checkout for me. I had a few things cancelled, but most of my order is on its way. Perhaps this has happened to other people? M&S are terrible with sale orders though...nothing new.

Don't worry, their loony system does that completely at random sometimes - it happened to me last time and I was quite worried, but the information changed eventually to the correct depot and the parcel arrived (in Leicester) on schedule
