Why don't you book a trip to Bristol? I think it would be perfect for you, lots of restaurants, cafes etc. IMHO Bath is ok, but can be quite 'up itself' and Bristol has quite a few theatres and a good varied music scene. Also, I find day-to-day shopping easier in Bristol, I only really go to Bath to do some present shopping.

Not sure what your finances are like, but here are a few:

£1,350 right in Clifton Village and not too far from Whiteladies Road and all the eateries there. A great place to be if you can afford it.

£895 2-bed overlooking the downs, so a bit farther to walk to Whiteladies, but fab place for a stroll in the evening.

£650 only 1-bed, but just off Whiteladies Rd and has a parking space!

Dorset? Bournemouth is by the sea and much cheaper than London and still has plenty going on

seconded. bournemouth and area is lovely. quite a few olds but there is a university so a young population too. new forest is nearby and the beach is sandy and 7 miles long.

perhaps steer clear of sandbanks unless you've got the odd few million quid to spare!

    Certainly rather a vague wishlist!
We escaped the old ratrace 6 years ago and now live in the middle of nowhere on the wild north Pembrokeshire coast.

It wouldn't suit everyone by a long chalk but to us it's paradise; no nightclubs, low crime rate, a real community spirit, large supermarket a 40 mile round-trip away, stunning unspoilt coastline, dolphin-watching from the garden, no chavs........

And the liveliest thing to happen recently was a bit of a to-do at the Gardening Club summer show (Allegations of cheating - don't ask! :D)

LOL - IT SOUNDS LIKE OUR VILLAGE IN SCOTLAND

Last month the front page of our local newsletter featured a request from the vicar. He was asking for the owner of a beachball (that he had found bouncing across the village green) to come forward so that he may return it. The owner meerly had to tell him the logo and picture on it to reclaim the item!!!

I think in the 3 years we have lived here the biggest 'incident' was when someone broke the glass in the village telephone box. However within 8 hours a villager had replaced the broken glass - so no harm done!

LOL - I stopped to ask a road sweeper for directions in Glasgow....nice bloke, one tooth in his head and after much shouting and waving I drove off none the wiser...Couldn't understand a word he was saying....LOL

He may well have had the same difficulty in understanding you, of course. ;)

I speek the queens inglish innit mate....

if everyone spokes it like what I does then no probs innit...LOL

Seriously though.....he was indeed very helpful (and I am sure he was being polite - although he could of been saying anything!!)...I just drove off with that 'why did I ask' thought going through my head!!!:rotfl:

Not withstanding the very helpful, if incoherent roadsweepers - Glasgow would not be my choice...each to their own though!

I used to live around the corner from there (albeit in a grotty bedsit). It's a great area - loads of pubs and stuff within walking distance, the city centre and habour are't that far away and you don't have the extreme housing costs of Clifton "village". There's a good mix of student and professional types around. Unlike some cities I know (Durham for one), Bristol doesn't have that much of a problem with city-university relations.
