OP, not being funny, but are you gay?. If so some rural villages may be a little too close knit.0

Not-London is a big place. Some more guidance would help.Been away for a while.0

I'd have look at Walmer/Kingsdown/Deal on the Kent coast.0

@jockosjungle Blackpool is a dump, but that was funny though
@jonewer Sandwich, battle & Rye could work
@cashbackproblems; I like Birmingham city centre but couldn't live anywhere else around there though.
@Torchboy I actually looked at Eastbourne myself
@Bitterandtwisted I have also heard deal is nice.
When I meant London was meaning anywhere in the M25, reason I like the south so much is because the weather is always better, more sunshine and a bit less rain. Some of those places like the Lake District, York etc are very nice but I like blue skies, that said Edinburgh is nice.0 -

a street which is like something you would see on booze britian is hardly a selling point.
i have lived in birmingham and thought it was a great place.0 -
What about Norwich? Nice size, friendly, housing cheaper than Brighton, near the seaside (& England's only whisky distillery
).
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

I'm in the same position, hoping to start the moving process before the end of the year. One of the two places I'm seriously considering IS Hastings (the Old Town, definitely not any other part!) having said that, I don't think it IS run down as Torchboy said, there are lots of new, useful shops opened in the last few years. I've spent some time there recently and of course there are chavs, but not as many as in London! I prefer it to Brighton, which is just like London with better air - and I loathe London...
I know Rye well, there's quite a bit of anti social behaviour there too!0 -

Out of interest, why did you decide against Eastbourne?
Been there a few times. I believe it was always a nice place but had the old peoples waiting room tag which put me but that's changed a bit from what I can see although their are a few people still waiting. I like the seafront area, the restaurants and bars are nice, good ish train links to London if you want it. I know living somewhere is a different story but someone has to.0
