Looking to escape London any thoughts - Quiet openminded

I am a single male in my early forties and have lived in London most of my Life except for periods when I briefly lived elsewhere. Basically I have had enough of the place, I am sure I don't need to expand on that. I have a good idea where I want to relocate to as I am single, no kids & Job can transfer pretty much anywhere within reason. I have done the commute to London thing before when I used to live near Guildford and don't fancy doing that again. Biggish city wise I have a soft spot for Birmingham city center, a lot cheaper than London to rent & a decent sized city, although living there could be another thing. Another option is Kent as in say Tunbridge, nice countryside, not a million miles away from the coast not far from airports etc. My last option/idea was Hampshire, good train links, not far from the coast, nice countryside. Ideally would love to live near or on the coast like Brighton but I am not convinced its worth the price against quality of life. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Id recommend Durham ,its beautiful and we are within easy travel distance to the coast and Newcastle .I ve been here 6 years now and love it .Life is short, smile while you still have teeth0

Kent is a bit parochial for a bloke looking for entertainment.
Cambridge, Bath, or York would offer lots to do thanks to student populations.Been away for a while.0 -
I vote the Lake District or North Wales, lots of countryside and a non London pace of life, ie. without knowing whether you still need to commute to work (how and to where), your question is impossible to answer0

Your right Birmingham City Centre is great, you have Broad Street which has all the bars and restaurants and the bullring/town walking distance which also has lots to do. It is no way as busy/hectic as London but still wouldnt feel dead like if you moved to York. Also you dont have to live in the city centre as rent isnt as cheap as youd think, but surrounding areas (10-20min drive) like Edgebaston, Hansworth, Stourbridge etc are all more residential and you might even be able to buy your own place.
ALso Birmingham is near Stratford/Warwickshire/Kenilworth which are upmarket and provide so much to do in the weekends, or you can even commute from here if you want.0 -

Go for a weekend to Liverpool, see the night life there, if you like it, its a great city and if you can afford it live near the docks and you will be walking distance from the major night life.
If you drive, then you can visit the lake district if you want the countryside, Manchester is close by, as is Chester and you can fly as well.
Cost wise it is a cheap city to live and you can move to nicer areas if you can afford it.0
