disabled and parents parking

When out shopping with the other half & his daughter (she is 2), if there is a P&C space available we will use it, however if there isn't one we just look for a quiet spot in the car park, no biggie.
I have no objections to disabled people using these spaces, although I do object to lazy people who can't park properly using these spaces because they are larger - just learn to park, it's not hard
What I also object to is having to wave said child above our heads to "prove" we have the "right" to park there - the looks we have had from people as the see us getting out of the car is unreal! I wonder if it's a damned if you do and damned if you don't senario - we have had someone nearly run over the 2 year old, hammering the horn, who was walking accross the carpark while holding her dad's hand after parking away from P&C spaces, and yet get daggers when we use them!
The supermarkets provide these spaces gratis, and they are intended for use by Parents with children. This is not for their benefit, but is a marketing ploy to get families into the supermarket - how often do you see children filling up trolleys????DEBT LIST

I can't believe some people get so worked up about P&C parking spaces. They are fantastic!!!
I had three children under 4 a few years ago and these spaces were the SAFEST to use as there was enough space between them to park a double buggy and lean over to lift a baby to the car. The alternative was to wedge the double buggy behind the car, secure toddler in car whilst trying to keep an eye on two babies, go back, pick one baby up into car, still trying to crane neck to keep an overall eye on remaining child, all whilst cars drove by within inches of the buggy. Hated it.
And, in this particular car park they are not the nearest to the shops so that's no big deal.
Also, I get sick of people saying "well I managed without them in my day" etc etc. Things change and progress happens.
Now my youngest is 4 and I have no buggies I don't use the spaces as I don't need them. I leave them to those with babies.0 -

I contested the ticket by email and also asked why I received it in the first place and received the following reply....
'Thank you for you email, we will return a postal response to you in due course. However, we are experiencing high volumes of correspondence at present so we may not be able to respond as quickly as our acknowledgement. I thank you for your patience during this time.'
I would take this to mean 'we have incorrectly ticketed a load of cars and are now trying to sort out the mess that our CEO's have gotten us into!' :rotfl:I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

There is an email address on the back of the ticket that goes directly to the admin office of the car parks dept. If you are in Sussex, can I ask why you asked?0 -

Post of the thread in my book. Safest being the main word.
The trouble being, those that park in P&C without kids think their car is more important than your children. Either that or they're just lazy.
I also see being out of a buggy as a cut off point for using them. Then I park in a normal space and teach them how to open their doors.
Ok, it takes a while, but eventually they learn if they open the door too quickly, it'll bounce off the car next to us and hurt their leg.0 -

Of course you can. It makes the world of difference as to who you emailed and whether its an official council charge or just a private parking company. See the parking forum for light reading if you've got some time to spare.
Even council tickets are often faulty and can be appealed on many levels. There's no reason to pay your hard earned cash unless you really have to.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

Ah right I'm with you LOL. Yes, definitely council ticket & I have appealed to the council and asked for photographic evidence to prove that my badge was incorrectly displayed (especially as it was where my local CEO has told me to display it!!!!).0 -
If they don't play nice come onto the parking forum and someone there will be able to help you avoid paying if you wish. It seems wrong that they are able to bluff BB holders into paying fines when they have no intention of contravening any rules.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Although I agree the P&C parking spaces are a nice extra, I will say that they are really useful for those of us with babies and tots. I'll always use them when out with babs and they're available but have no problem parking the other side of the car park if not.
However, I do get wound up with the lazy !!!!!! that park there without kids in the back... in my mind it's akin to those that use disabled spaces, park across the front entrance or insist on holding up traffic by waiting for the closest available space with their blinkers on instead of driving to one of the other spaces just up ahead... it's selfish behaviour and shows an utter disregard for anyone else! Oh and don't get me started on the people that use two parking spaces for one car
For those of you that don't feel that P&C spaces are useful... when my little one was 8 weeks old, I came back to the multi-story to find two rather considerate drivers had parked so close to both sides of my car that I couldn't get any doors open wide enough to get the baby in. I then faced the choice of leaving my baby unattended in a car park while I reversed, leaving her with a stranger while I reversed or giving a stranger the keys to my car so they could drive it out for me... that was fun! Oh and in case you're wondering... I'd park the furthest away spot and there were lots of spaces all along the row! Guess they just liked my car!:cool:0
