Littleredhen, I'm so, so sorry to hear that you lost Maria. There are an awful lot of us here who, unfortunately, all know the pain you will be feeling right now. All of our precious pets will take good care of Maria over the bridge. She is free from her suffering now, and you did the kindest thing for her when she most needed you to. Remember that she would thank you for what you had to do today.

    Love and hugs :grouphug:

thanks emptypockets - my dd loved the idea of her walking over a rainbow bridge to be with others - we got the photos out tonight of her when she was a kitten although my dd didn't know her then - we will get a photo framed and put it in pride of place - maria's sister is sitting on the back of my armchair in her usual spot and we have to remember that she still needs our love and i am sure she will miss her too

My thoughts are with you tonight

It is the last greatest act of love that we can show to our beloved pets - to let them go in dignity, knowing they are loved

    (((((hugs)))))
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

  • I am so sorry about Maria but so pleased her last few days were so cherished,

I don't know if this will help anyone but at a recent John Edward reading (he is the medium on Crossing Over) he was able to see a grandfather with his dog at his side and then several other dogs from the same family - all on the other side. That made me so happy at the time so I am going to hold on to this thought :)

I was so sad to read this littleredhen. Big hugs to you. You can gain comfort from the fact that you gave her the chance before you had to take her. And that you did the very best thing for her. Hopefully she will meet up with my lil Tinker on the bridge. What fun they will have playing together.

So sorry to hear about Maria, littleredhen. Thank you for giving a little cat such a lovely life, though.

Oh my goodness, reading this thread has made me cry! I've lost a few pets over the years, and sadly, in the near future will be losing more - my "boys" as I call them - 3 dogs - are now all geriatrics (aging from 13-18)...youngest two I've had since they were both pups (father and son) and I honestly don't know what I will do when they're gone.

But, as other people have rightly said - knowing when to let your pet go is the final, and ultimate at of love and I think a recognition of all the selfless love and joy they bring to our lives. It's hard to judge the "right" time to do this...ultimately I think it's when the bad days begin to outweigh the good. Animals are very good at letting us know when they've had enough - we just have to be wise enough to recognise the signs, and strong enough to accept it, which isn't always easy.

The last dog I lost was an old fat labrador my family took on...he died a good while ago now, at home, with his "fanclub" of friends and neighbours by his side (he was a very cheerful and popular dog). I reckon that if you have a choice, it's always better to call the vet out and let the animal slip away peacefully at home...it's much less stressful for them. Plus it allows other pets to witness it, and "make peace" with their deceased friend.
