Thanks to snowyowl, littleredhen and madget for your kind words. Coming home wasn't as bad as I was expecting as the phone was ringing as I walked through the door so that distracted me. Just got back from food shopping and expected her to come running downstairs to rub her head against the bags as she always did.

I think we will always miss her, she was such a character and the house feels empty without her. Even if she wasn't in the room you could just feel her presence in the house - it feels all big and empty without her her. Over time we'll get used to it though and in a few weeks we will give another cat a loving home, whether that's for only a few short years as with Cwtch or more than a decade I am sure the new cat will also bring us joy just as our darling girl did.
littleredhen - I'm so glad your kitty has picked up, lets hope she's turned a corner, I'm thinking of you.0 -
You gave her a good life rugby - she had more than many cats - try to remember the good things and when you feel able take a little unloved soul into your home as a tribute to your love.0

Thanks hethmar - that's what we're trying to hold on to. I managed to get sleep properly last night instead of waking up every hour wondering why she wasn't on the bed. I also managed to get up without bawling like I did yesterday morning. Just had to call and cancel the pet insurance and let them know that a claim was coming - that set me off again. It is getting easier with each passing hour though.
We've got 3 busy weekends coming up with family visits and weddings so we don't want to introduce a new cat (or maybe cats) to the home before things settle down. That also gives us 4 weeks to grieve for our Cwtch and to make sure that we are bringing a new cat into the house for the right reasons. She would have wanted us to give another kitty the lovely life she had, and although no cat could ever replace her we know that the next one will be loved just as much as she was.0 -
rugbygirl,so sorry for your loss.I hope these 2 poems comfort you.
FUR FEET IN HEAVENYour favorite chair is vacant now,
No eager purrs to greet me,
No softly padded paws to run,
Ecstatically to meet me.
No coaxing rub, no plaintive cry,
Will say its time for feeding,
I've put away your bowl,
And all the things you won't be needing.
But I miss you little friend,
I can never measure,
The happiness you brought to me,
The comfort and the pleasure.
But since God put you here,
To share in earthly joy and sorrow,
I'm sure there will be a place for you ,
In Heaven's bright tomorrow.
THE LEGACY
When humans die, they make a will
To leave their homes and all they have
to those they love.
I, too, would make a will if I could write.
To some poor wistful, lonely stray
I leave my happy home,
My dish, my cosy bed, my cushioned chair, my toy.
The well loved lap, the gentle stroking hand,
the loving voice,
The place I made in someone's heart,
The love that at the last could help me to
a peaceful painless end
Held in loving arms.
If I should die, Oh do not say,
"No more a pet I'll have,
to grieve me by it's loss"
Seek out some lonely, unloved cat
And give my place to him.
This is the legacy I leave behind -
'tis all I have to give0 -
Thank you Froglet, they have me in floods of tears again but the last one particularly struck a chord. Cwtch would have wanted us to give another unlucky kitty a home and that is what we will do in a few weeks. I've just printed out a picture of her taken a few weeks ago and framed it, it's nice to see her little face again.0

They make me cry too,no matter how many times i read them.My beloved dog died over 2 years ago and, having gone through a long bout of severe depression,i feel i still am not capable of giving a new dog my proper care and attention. But the time wil come. The house is empty without any animals but i have 2 big fish ponds outside that take up my time, without the emotional tie that an animal needs.0

littleredhen wrote: »hi all - thanks for asking how my cat is today - the reason i haven't been on to report is that i was trying to have a normal day for my kids - take them swimming and catch up with friends as we have spent all weekend looking after our cat - anyway she improved over the day yesterday and was trying to eat and lay on the bed with me all afternoon and seemed to be perking up so i phoned the vet this morning to say look even if she is perking up how do we get medication into her to relieve the pain etc and she said she had ordered an appetite stimulant for us as she had seen it work brilliantly in other cats and the bottom line was that if she started to eat again then fantastic - if not its time to say goodbye - she said cats only stop eating if things are bad so she was worried when i said she wasn't eating but she also said they need to be reminded how to eat and i said i had been hand feeding her over the day on sunday and although most of it was the jelly off cat food some of it was fish poached in milk - so we are blessed that she seems to be happier - she is now sitting in the back garden watching the world go by - i am taking each day as a blessing but if she stops eating again or looks unhappy then i know what i have to do
thank you all so much for sharing your stories no matter how painful and thank you all for your words or encouragement - you have helped me through a dreadful time -
funnily enough she was sleeping under the clothes horse at night but last night she went back to her normal bed downstairs beside her sister so i do feel as we may have turned a corner but as i said i know in the long term her life is now limited so we give thanks for each day we have her - will update this thread if there is any news - good or bad:)
Not sure if this is relevant or not, Gizmo the cat prefers just the jelly off the cat food, will eat the meat if he really has too, but its the jelly he likes, OH said it was the gunk they stick in it like the burgers that make you want more.
OH has gone through so many brands and flavours for Gizmo, when all Giz prefers is the jelly, although when push comes to shove he does eat his food and the dry food too.. but his favourite is the jelly0 -
shezmit,so sorry to hear about your puss too.He/she is beautiful.0
