Would you mind telling how much you bought the bus for?

    I love buses :)
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.
  • I never said where I found the insurance! It was Sureterm Direct, for £286 fully comp.

The bus is for sale - we've had an amazing time in her, but it's time to move on to new adventures and let someone else have some fun. She's £15,000. You can see more details here:

    According to:
    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/WhatCanYouDriveAndYourObligations/DG_10037875

    A motorhome 3500kg to 7500kg needs a category C1 licence, over 7500kg neds a 'C' licence.

If you can drive an old bus on an ordinary car licence, as long as not for hire or reward, I am interested to know why you chose to register it as a motorhome?

So insurance will be difficult as the OP wont have that category as they passed after 1997?

Wonder how much it will cost to recover a bus after getting pulled for no licence or insurance?

It can be driven on a category B car licence.
The only licence restriction is the driver must be over 21, and can carry a maximum of 8 passengers.
Doesn't make any difference when they passed.
    It's still a

"passenger carrying vehicle manufactured more than 30 years before the date when it is driven and not used for hire or reward or for the carriage of more than 8 passengers "

It may have been converted to a motorhome, but it's still a 30 year old bus.

So I don't think you'll be getting an answer there.

the problem is that the vehicle is regisered as a motorhome not a bus, therefore you would need cat c to drive it.

As it's a motorhome, if it is under 3500kg you can drive it on a cat 'B' licence, if it is 3500kg to 7500kg you need a cat 'C1' licence, over 7500kg you need a cat 'C' licence.
