As it is 37 years old I would approach insurers to cover it on a classic truck/classic bus basis rather than on a motorhome policy. Surprised that Flux would not look at it at all - how long did the advisor take to check whether they would do it?
  • Try Highway, not too sure whether they will cover it but hitherto one of their many mottos was that if it had an engine and wheels they would insure it !!
  • Thanks everyone! I did try NFU Mutual - they put you through to your local branch where the lady went off to 'discuss with her colleagues' and never got back to me - I will call them again on Monday. Sounds as though I should try Adrian Flux again. I can't remember exactly how the conversation went - have spoken to so many companies about this now! - but they said you want to speak to these guys, and put me through to some intermediary who put me through to two other brokers. Thanks for the tip on KGM, I'll give them a go too.

And for the curious, here's a photo -

hopefully you can see it. It needs a bit of a clean as has been stored on a farm for a while.
  • Ah, the photo link didn't work; let me try again!

Why not add it as a temporary additional vehicle on your car insurance?. I did this with a van I bought. Cost me £18 per month for a max. 3 months.

BTW, nice looking bus. Always fancied converting one myself, would update the engine to something a bit more modern though.

Hi -suggest you try the historic vehicle scheme arranged by www.hcvs.co.uk.
click on insurance and from memory DD Bus will be aound £200 and when I had an old van insured with them it was arranged with Lioyds

You say you're planning to drive it 400 miles - is this at a certain time of year? In which case, could you / would you be better off with a temporary insurance policy? Of course, that wouldn't cover you for fire on your property...

Could you also make some money back by hiring it out? I keep seeing adverts for motorhome hire agencies! But my little van is so bijou I'm not sure anyone would want it

  • Hi,

    You could try Graham Sykes:

If he can't help you then I don't know who will.

    Regards,
