The place I go for MOTs has a mechanical guage hooked up to the brake rollers. You can see for yourself what the readings are and if they are imbalanced.

Kwik Fit have a very unwarranted bad reputation to my mind.

A voice in the wilderness;), you must be extremely lucky to have, probably the only decent KwikFit Branch in the whole country, near you.

    My local branch is appalling.

I dont see how you could actually report the garage to VOSA (well not if you want to be honest in your complaint).
The complaint would have to go something like this.....
    Dear VOSA
I took my car to a garage to get an MOT. The garage did not do MOTs so they sent it to another garage. When my beloved car was returned to me it had failed due to inbalanced front brakes. I then took it to another garage, who stripped them back, and re-fitted them.
When I again presented my car for a re-test a few days later, my brakes were good enough to pass a MOT.
Therefore the brakes must have been fine all along, even before they were stripped and re-fitted!!

I thought it was an offence to drive a car that had no MOT (i.e. a failed MOT) unless it is to a pre-booked MOT appointment using the most direct route.

Your car failed its MOT due to faulty brakes (rightly or wrongly). If you had an accident or were pulled over whilst driving around they'd through the book at you for knowingly driving an unroadworthy car.

The OP might hav taken the car in a week early.Thats what I aim to do so any parts that need ordering should it fail have time to arrive and be fitted.

[STRIKE]It wouldn't make any difference if it was taken in early. The most recent MOT would supercede any previous ones. [/STRIKE] I stand corrected.

The fact still remains, the driver has been told the car is not roadworthy by an authorised body yet continues to drive it.

    No.

Your MOT is valid till it expires irrespective of whether or not your car becomes unroadworthy during the course of its validity.

I'm sorry, I hadn't realised we all had to kiss each others back-sides. It's called a difference of opinion, it sometimes happens on an open forum.

A difference of opinion would be fine, however an unfair assumption that someone is commiting a motoring offence is not a difference of opinion...
And as for "back-side kissing" i was merely pointing out the fact they were correct, and if thanking someone for not assuming im a criminal is "back-side kissing"then may the lord shoot me down with a thunderbolt!!!!........:rotfl:
