Your garage (missing the BIG MOT sign) sent your car to another garage for a MOT...2 garages so far? Then you took your car to another one (2 + 1 =3), [STRIKE]and then another[/STRIKE] 2 kwik fit type (3 + 2 = 5) ...yes?
At the risk of being picky I'm going for 4.

second oppinion at a well known centre

I read this as being one of the Kwik Fit garages mentioned.

also i went to two kwik fits

Unusual for them to turn a car away without needing any work doing. Things must have changed since I last went there;)

I had a problem with an mot , it failed on emissions, changed 2 lambda sensors and a speed sensor and took it back and it still failed, so I took it to another garage for a a spot of welding that needed doing for the mot and asked them for a second opinion on this, they put it on their machine and it passed, this is exactly the same machine as the other garage, so took it back for its mot and failed again. In the end the second garage did the mot and it sailed through.

I make it 5 garages too.

As far as the car is concerned, if 3 of the 5 garages have said it's ok, why not just go somewhere else for an MOT and report the garage to trading standards or VOSA?

Seems extraordinary that kwik fit have stripped brakes, tested them, rebuilt them, done a brake balance test, not charged you a penny and not tried to sell you anything???
That's actually worth the post on its own

Regarding kwik fit,yes unusual i know!! but maybe there is some genuine people out there who are'nt just out to con you (very rare) but hay ho...
And as for reporting them, like i said, on monday when i have to take my car down to the original place whatever the outcome im going to give vosa a ring, but just want to see what the mot tester has to say first. Its more the principal that the first mot was wrong..

Kwik Fit have a very unwarranted bad reputation to my mind. I have had my brakes tested on a number of occasions, there has never been hard sell, on one occasion they couldn't find the problem but spent an hour stripping them down and cleaning them and charged not a single penny.

My last MOT was done by Kwik Fit and it passed, there we no dodgy advisorys. Personally I would take the car back to Kwik Fit and get them to do the MOT.
