Am I seriously Uncreditable??

I've asked about this before. Long story short: I defaulted on a Student Natwest Mastercard about 2.5 yrs ago and have since been suffering badly getting credit.

I have hardly any outgoings.. No rent or utility bills, loans or outstanding CCs. Just a regular O2 phone bill and broadband.

I live my parents so literally no outgoings.

I have been in full-time employment at a reputable firm on a good salary for my age (23)

But because I defaulted on that £250 Student MC, I can't get credit anywhere, for anything. No loans, no CCs, no bank accounts (except Halifax current).

I haven't just gone out applying for credit after credit. I've applied sensibly for a couple of things in the last 12 months - a £6k loan last year, a 1st direct current account 6 months ago and a Barclaycard Initial - rejected for all!!

It's a bit harsh isn't it? A £250 "student" CC...! Plus I only defaulted as I wasn't receiving the red letters at the address I was at (my fault).

Is there NO CC I can get at all??? I need a dead cert as application after application is detrimental to my C history (dumbest thing I've ever heard)..

Help appreciated!

The default will stay on your credit file for up to six years. Unfortunately it sounds like you're just going to have to sit it out. What do you actually need a credit card for if you're on a good salary and have no outgoings?

Well I have a car and expensive taste (being honest).. I eat out a lot and honestly I haemorrhage ridiculously quickly and stupidly!

With a CC I could live comfortably and then take a vacation... Ear airmiles and all the other things.. And help me during the squeeze of 5 week pay months etc etc...

You can say you earn £150k a year if you really want to,with that default you aint going to get a decent credit card until that default drops off your file..

You need to check your file with both experian & equifax to make sure that all the information they have about you are correct. Then you'll have a better idea as to why you're getting decline for credit, it might have nothing to do with Natwest.

No mate it is not stopping you getting a credit card, you are now classed as a risk,so any one who will give you credit will give you very high apr because of risk based..
  • You dont deserve any further credit which is why your not getting it.

Your attitude stinks. You are a risk and your proving it by thinking its ok to default because it was only £250.

Try again in 4 years when the default goes and learn to respect credit as not a God given right but as a privilege, treat it like that and you will be rewarded with a lower risk profile.
