What's your 'can't be bothered' dinner/tea?

I always love anything on toast - from cheese sauce (left over) to cheese and beans to poached eggs.
But my favourite lazy dinner has to be "baked bean pie" (I am eternally grateful to my ex for this recipe).
All you need to do is cook some beans in the bottom of a oven proof dish, add smash (or normal mash if you don't like smash) top with grated cheese and schwartz Itallian Seasoning and then put it under the grill until the cheese is bubbling nicely. If you want you can add onions or sausages (veggie for me;)) to the beans.
Its proper comfort food and is soooo easy to make :rotfl:Official DFW Nerd Club No. 1150 - Long Haul Supporters Club No 186 - Debt free 26.5.17

I've bookmarked this thread - some interesting quickie recipes
Two of my favourites are...
Small tin of salmon, four medium tomatoes - quartered, and oven chips. Plenty of freshly ground black pepper and a little smidgen of salt on the tomatoes.
Three slices of Spam - crispy fried, with cheesey beans on toast.
What I don't use of the spam I freeze.
I'll also sometimes buy a couple of slices of the large size corned beef and eat with cold baked beans and oven chips.0 -

having kept menus for a few months I have decided we eat "too well".
Is there much harm,do you think,on having something like egg and chips once a week, toast for breakfast, and say, beans on toast for lunch. Just once a week, a "frugal " day? does anyone do this ?"The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0 -
Hi zarazara,
Yes, we regularly have a frugal or use up leftovers/storecupboard items day. There is absolutely no problem with having a quick, easy or cheap meal when it suits you. Meal planning isn't set in stone and everyone's needs are different so you need to plan around your own family, time constraints, budgets etc. Providing you are getting a good balanced diet in general I wouldn't think you will be doing any harm whatsoever.

A lot of people seem to menu plan for 5 days and use the store cupboard and leftovers for the other two.
I quite often have a month when I do my best to use up things from the stock cupboard and freezer which have been sitting around for a while and buy as little else as possible!2019 fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons0 -
We always just have something on toast or soup and bread one night a week. It means one night off from cooking and is nice and cheap too
To ensure it fills my often ravenous OH up I make sure there is a filling pudding (eg rice pudding, cheap homemade crumble) on the menu that night too, just really to prevent him getting hungry again and then raiding the cupboards!

Beans are really nutritious.
Egg & chips is lovely, especially with bacon & beans. Do the chips the healthy way in the oven as wedges sprayed with olive oil.0
