Sky Viewing Card is now £25.00.

I already have Sky digital satellite equipment - what else do I need?
All you need to gain access to the free channels available on the digital satellite platform is a Freesat from Sky viewing card, which costs just £25. If you’d like to access the interactive services available, you’ll also need a working phone line. To purchase a viewing card please phone Sky on 08448 244 400.

Oh joy, a 20% increase, typical of Sky.

And of course depending on what channels you watch you may not "need" anything from Sky

Nobody should be buying a card anyway, so it shouldn't impact too many people!

But, people with Sky in Spain need a card in order to get ITV ( region dependent ).;)

I cancelled sky a couple of years ago, kept the old blue viewing card to retain the local BBC and Granada stations as 1 and 3. They've been updating them over the last 12months so I've lost Sky3, and all the five channels (do miss CSI nowadays) but can tune into channel 5 on the extra channel selection, I don't get it on the EPG.

However a few months back Sky requested that we purchase a £20 viewing card and I did.

The only benefit of that is receiving the 'five' channels and sky3.

So would I get more or less channels if I use freesat uk and would I be able to use the sky box for freesat uk or would I need to buy a different box?
You have to listen to learn!

You can keep the box you have. If you cancel your sky sub you'll obviously lose the paid sky channels. Depending on what card you have you might lose or keep sky 3 and the 'five' channels(5US, fiver and channel5). You'll keep all the ITV, Channel4 and BBC variants along with some other random channels.

I've no idea what happens with the HD channels.

Sky is a utter waste of money anyway!

Specially when you can enjoy the British weather ;)
